Fired! P.M. clears out Edmund “Clear the Land’ Castro

edmund castro

Edmund ‘Clear the Land’ Castro has been cleared, clean out of his portfolio today.  It is not exactly clear what Castro did to so peeve the Prime Minister that he was relieved of his duties as Minister of State for Works. But the news of his firing set off plenty speculation, from corruption to abuse, that the junior minister did not wish to discuss except to tell us that he was busy. The release from the PM’s office says that “the Prime Minister has, with immediate effect, removed Honorable Edmund Castro as a Minister of State. The decision was taken following a report made to the Prime Minister about an incident involving Castro. The Prime Minister was satisfied, after due consideration, that the report was substantially accurate; and that Honorable Castro had engaged in behavior inconsistent with the high standards of propriety to which the Prime Minister seeks to hold his ministers.” Clear the Land Castro first came to prominence for his Tilapia projects and for clearing sensitive wetlands at Crooked Tree Village for a road. He is the second minister of state to fall from grace; the first was Juan Coy from the south who ran into trouble over contraband beer. Marcel Cardona, a minister of culture and sports, has the distinction as the only minister so far to have been relegated to the back for being outspoken against a “secret contract” involving NICH.

The Joker’s hand has been played, does this Pretender Man, (P.M.), think that he can satisfy the masses by firing some dumb a$$ , how about firing the minister in charge of the Police Dept., Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs, this is where the real shame of the Country lies, also his Deputy, Belize is for the people of Belize, but under this admin., it appears that everyone comes first, except the poor commom Belizean, Chinese People will soon be the majority in Belize, population and property wise. This whole group of Circus clowns needs to be sent packing. One love and nuff respek for my beautiful Belize and all BELIZEANS, betta mus come. Also Joseph Freight is a subsidary of Minister Montero, he needs to stop allowing his brother “Joseph Freight” Rolly Montero to monopolize the customs and borders and allow for equal treatment for all our brothers and sisters involved in the shipment of goods from the U.S. to Belize, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO EAT, stop being selfish pigs.

  2. kristy says:

Thank God this happen ! ,cause clear the land Castro was on a high horse using his post to hustle clearing private land and using the Government vehicle to take this wife to work and his kids to circle about in Belize

  3. Felipe de Montelivio-Sosa says:

This is what separates Prime Minister Barrow from other past Belizean Prime Ministers. Mr Barrow takes no nonsense from his ministers. Remember Mr Juan Coy? Well now its Castro. I feel bad for Castro since he was a hands on guy. He let me down even though I do not vote UDP. I bet you that this sort of news has left the Oppositions Newspaper with a difficult job of trying to use this story to attack Mr. Barrow. And if they do then that is just another story I guess. After tthis incident I have reasons to doubt that Mr Perdomo was a ringleader of the immigrations scam. I say “reasons to doubt” I say reasons to doubt and not “I strongly believe” that Mr Perdomo was not involved in the immigration scandal because, hey anything possible da Belize. Good Job Mr Prime Minister for being the first PM in Belize to fire a Minister for what “seems” to be corruption or wrong doing in high public office. I salute you. I am also anxious to hear the comments of the people who are going to post comments after me because I hope that they will provide a strong critique of my comment and disagreement is a good way to learn. I know the commentator known as “rod” is going to post something criticizing the PM and his government and he will do it without as much thought shown by a large majority of Channel 5 commenters. I will be waiting to read the comments of both “rod” and other Belizeans and learn why and how my argument is incorrect . I will however be anxious to hear what the rest of the commenters say rather than hearing “rod’s” comments. This Channel 5 commenting thing is so good because you learn other people’s good arguments and beliefs. Big up Channel 5 and keep the good work up.

  4. BZNinCALI says:

So Castro got spanked, Perdomo, watch out!!!

  5. Elgin Martinez says:

Why havn’t Perdomo been fired. This BS is double standard Mr Barrow.

  6. Don Pepe says:

That turtle head PM shoud fire himself as well, he not doing nothing for Belize man, more curruption, he spoke of curruption about the other party and look at him now with the same $#!t, just this time he is in the pile and very messed that even when he speaks the same thing comes out crap.

  7. Common Sense says:

Mixed thoughts – one hand am disappointed, I had originally fallen for Castro’s “hands on” approach. The other hand, and delighted, as above, that the PM seemed to show no hesitation. He is a lawyer, saw the alleged overwhelming evidence, knew it undefendable, and fired.

Well done PM. Now watch and research you other ministers and Reps.

  8. kebeh says:

I applaud the Prime minister for his decision to get rid of the corrupt ministers of our beautiful jewel..I say if you are corrupt then your head should roll,,there are so many people who are doing the right thing so we should not tolerate those who are stealing from the hard working Belizeans. Kudos Dean you did the right thing my friend.

  9. belriv girl says:

While I agree with the PM for keeping true to one of his many promises none of you can imagine the pain and dissapoint the people of the belize river valley feels. For us, its like the UDP has abondoned us – once again. And while we do not approve of our minister’s action we stand behind him 100%. Let’s not ever forget the GOOD he has done for us. Kristy get a life! Do you not see every other minister in government wife being taken somewhere in the gob vehicle? Or maybe we prefer it the UP way where the kids are hidden from site in Belama.

  10. Sugar says:

In dealing with a crowd like that, U must appear to be fair across the board……commendable step with Castro… BUT…..so it should be with all the other Ministers…….discipline starts at HOME PM.

  11. oscar says:

remember castro hog head… he got what he long deserved and this one goes to all the other ministers who look down on the belizean public…

  12. lena gial says:

hoqw about Zeniada Moya Flowers, Rene Montero they are as bad as Castro Montero stealing the poor importers of their hard working money having to be paying Belize Marketing and Development Corporation 5 ct per pound of vegetables as cabbage, carrots, potatoes and for what reason why thief thief coruption coruption PM pls do something before something happens .

  13. rootsman says:

Hats off to the Prime Minister on this one although long overdue as I was expecting and anticipating this to happen since I have personal experience with this man and his corrupt behavior,
I will not say much more as Felipe has expressed most of my same sentiments with the exception of feeling bad for Castro as I believe his hands on approach was only a ploy to try and be popular with the people.

The writing was on the walls of just about every bus shed in Belize Castro is a Hog I hope that he have enriched himself enough with all the land that he has cleared and his ill gotten wealth from those lands.

  14. Corruption Watch 2010 says:

Nothing like waking up to GREAT news.. i won’t even have my coffee, i dont need it – my day couldn’t get any better. Whole a his constituency di rejoice! Corrupt Castro wa be lee les powerful.. he stil wa d thief, but less.

  15. Learsiman says:

Damn good PM Barrow. This is the same decision you should take as far as Perdomo and Doug Singh are concerned. Deal with the heavy weight in your ministry too…it’s sad but most of the ministers in cabinet are there to just fill their pockets from public finances..

  16. Common Sense says:

    roots:

“I believe his hands on approach was only a ploy to try and be popular with the people”

I pray not. But realistically, you are probably correct.

Either way, he has failed us.

Ask for forgiveness (money and power, along with sex, are the main weapons of the system), make restitution, work your way back into the trust of your constituents – with the purest and highest of honest intention. Castro represents more than just politics – If Castro is genuine, then this break represents a blessing for him.

If he is a fake empty talker (like the majority of politicians, if not all) then this is just the first of your fall downwards.

    Sallams.

  17. rasman says:

This is a joke, The entire UDP Cabinet should be fired . They are not doing one jack !@#$.

  18. bigbrown says:

i for one am happy because it was obvious he was doing mada!@$$. squadering belize’s money on his own selfish needs. having his family parade aroung in goverment cars. slowing down heavy traffic on the northern highway in the morning so his sons cud have a vehicle escort them while the train theif cycling skills, while other ppl are trying to get to work.
    GOOD RIDDINS!!!

  19. Jaime Gutierrez says:

I have to thank the Prime Minister for living up to his word to not tolerate corruption from members of his administration.

  20. belizeanfirst says:

come on learsiman and others who are calling for the head of perdomo, singh and other ministers. isn’t this proof enouugh for you skeptics that PM barrow is for real in his anti-corruption pledge and that if he had any solid evidence on any of his other ministers he would have fired them already. come on guys, this is what you want in a PM now you get it and you still criticize, . that doesn’t say much for your objectivity nor your intelligence

  21. Oscar965 says:

The words HONEST and MINISTER unfortunately are like oil and water. Can anyone post a name of an Honest currently elected minister in Government today?…PUP or UDP?… I’ve been thinking for the past 30 minutes and cannot come up with a single name….now that is sad….so sad….

  22. Hog head 2010 says:

Bloody good job Mr. PM. I’m just hoping that this minor incident be an example to the other corrupted ministers an that you as a minister do not indulge yourself in this type of situation.!!!

  23. Kenzie says:

Well here is where we can say that Belizeans do not stick together, what will it benefit anyone of us to call others name and make assumptions. I am no particular party i vote for who i think will be honest and who i think will work. I live in Belize River Valley all my life and in the many years that Foncesa was a minister in that area he has not done not even half the work Castro has done in the short time he has been in GOB. I agree that he should be reprimanded for the wrong he did but we do not need to low rate oursleves with blasphemy against our GOB and ministers. It is so convenient to place blame and hurry to get rid of our GOV, well let me tell you all, this country will be no BETTER with Johnny, and the GOV is still trying to clear away all the !@#$ that the last administration left behind. people in this country live how they live because they want to live that way. The gov is not suppose to pay our bills and take care of us, Belize have too many lazy ppl that dont try to make better for themselves, there is a lot of things ppl can do to make an income, but lazy ppl like easy money and dont want to work for it. Likewise guns dont kill ppl, ppl kill ppl. If those teenagers doing those killings were properly raise we would have no shooters in our country, that alone should speak for itself. Wake up Belizeans and smell the coffee its your life not the GOV’s.

  24. Kay says:

Barrow whipped out “The Rod of Correction!” He best start whipping at Vega, Singh, Montero and Perdomo. If you chastize only the “Black Man” that has a hands on approach to “helping” rural Belizeans then it starts looking like favoritism for your ” Four Prodigal Sons.”

  25. rootsman says:

I don’t think we need to make this a race thing after all Mr. Barrow is also a black man and so is Mr. Elrington, Mr. Faber, Mr. Hutchison, Mr. Finnegan and whoever else.

It all has to do with proof and apparently someone had proof on hog head Castro, I would suggest that if anyone else have proof on any of the other ministers then you should step up to the plate and make it known.

  26. belizeanpride says:

What about all the belizeans fire the bald head p.m since he’s not doing his job as suppose to. This is just a way to channel the people’s views from what the reality of hardship we’re going through and so we can blogg and say good p.m but really this is politricks people. don’t swallow everything that looks nice.

  27. Josie says:

    Rootsman,

I agree with your comment if anyone else has proof of any wrong doing PLEASE be true to yourself and the Belizean people and step forward. I have been a long time supporter of the UDP but I have changed it’s not about any political party anymore, it’s about what is the character of the individual running for office, their capacity and capability to get the job done honestly. Mr. Castro I am disappointed in you but hey all the other ministers have skelentons in their closets as well, so cut your loses and move on with your life.

  28. rootsman says:

Sadine got canned, Fire the real Sharks, Thanks for the info on Joseph Freight , I know a lot of terrible things are going on in the customs department but never knew of the connection between Joseph Freight and the minister now I can see why some people are so successful when importing goods into Belize as suppose to others that does not benefit from the preferential treatment that is afforded others, of all the departments within the GOB I believe that the customs have the most wrong doings since they are in a much better position to accept bribes and to allow illegal shipments into the country it’s not just airplanes that are landing with the drugs I believe that most of this stuff comes through our customs department and that the port should have never been privatized hope Mr. Barrow can see it the same way.

  29. sambo says:

    And Perdomo still there??!!!

  30. Stephen says:

Enough is enough, the Prime Minister is just doing his job and his promise to hard working Belizean NO CORRUPTIONS I am proud of HIM keep it up PM I am a PUP but I respect you and I will always support a PM like you. Now it is time to look at the Minister in that same office WORKS.

  35. Mammy's little Angel says:

hey everybody make mistakes and do worng even the liad @$$ PM do worng and is more than corrupted so i don’t know why he’s playing like he’s all good or so. He’s trying to get rid of all those whom he know will send him to the bottom of sea when they find ot his negative doings. So MR BARROW quit palying all innocent caus you are as bad as any other crimnal in the city and the world. SHAME ON YOU PM i hope you fire yourself when we find out about your bad doings.

  36. Darius Martinez says:

Felipe, go back to your history, didn\t RT. Hon George Price disciplined Hon. Louis Sylvestre? wasn\t Hon. Max Samuels disciplined? I think whoever becomes the next Prime Minister should hold his ministers accountable and strip them of their ministries once they are associated with any kind of corruption; perhaps Barrow should start investigating the newly acquired wealth of some of his ministers and members of the house; this would send a strong message that he is really serious about corruption.

  37. boyblue says:

Oscar 965 – The most honest minister in that godforsaken establisment would be Sedi Elrington. I am in his constituency, and for one, he has been helping out the people, those affected by richard, and now he has a community center that is also a evening school for children, they have a sewing group, a catering group and all kinds of programs their to develop the people, becuz the prime minister gave him the worst constituency, and mr. elrington has helped to develop the area, and its non profit to him also.

  38. essie says:

all the minister get 10,000 dollars a month we know that but there making poeple believe them only get 3,000 dollars a month were the rest of money goes dean barrow you know were is th rest of money.

  39. curious observation says:

A curious observation in this fiasco and circus affairs. Barrow is tooth and nails after Jose Coye for a “land deal”. They even going to the Caribbean court of justice is what i think i heard. Correct me if i am wrong. The question is: Will he be tooth and nails after Clear di Land as well for the same thing “land deal”? Or will he turn a blind eye. Deano, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. We are out here observing…. Mark my word, we are marking your report card, no two ways bout that.

  40. clf says:

what the pm should address is the damn crime sttuation in out country am still waiting for a news conference from him addressing that an more over the whole story is not as they make it to be i am a clear the land supporter an i will contiue to be clear the land supporter so to all teh haters oud de f u self CLEAR THELAND BIG UP God know best keep up yo head cant keep wa good man down love u clear the land always big up

  41. justice says:

@ clf….If you’re a good man, you’re a good man from start to finish. Clearly Edmund got caught being a bad man. There is a saying that goes ” Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Maybe the power of his position got to his head and he lost his way, that does not excuse him from having to answer to the public. I want fair and honest government, that’s the only way that Belize will survive and the people will prosper. I don’t like how the PM is handling a lot of issue’s but wether he is throwing people under the bus to hide his own misdeeds and failures only time will tell. What Edmund needs to do is apologize for letting down his constituents with this scandel, and vow to win back their trust and rise from this shame an honest man.
