Traveller’s Liquors. That’s what Canadians are talking about

A local product is breaking into the Canadian market and chances are, most adults may have had a shot at it. Traveller’s Liquors exported its first container of an assortment of its rums to Canada. The local rums had to undergo strict compliance regulations to be able to penetrate the competitive Canadian market and now that it has, the proprietors are hoping the orders will keep coming.

“We got an assorted forty foot container order of assorted liquor from Traveller’s. It includes our most popular, which is the 1 Barrel, the 3 Barrel. It includes also Crystal Light Rum, our Classic White Rum and surprisingly they ordered our Lerska Vodka, which is one of the things that we’re most proud of because normally Belize imports vodka. But this confirms to us—we’ve always known but it confirms that the vodka that Traveller’s is producing is on par with any international vodka.”

How did you all manage to tap into the Canadian market? What was that process like?

Perla Perdomo

“Well a couple years ago we were getting a lot of Canadian tourists to Belize and when they went back home we would get a lot of hits on the webpage. So there was a company out of Belize that does imports and exports and they were also receiving inquiries about sending shipments to Canada. And so they approached us and they brought the representatives of the company to visit the facilities because they were interested to see that first of all, we had the quality controls at Traveller’s and we had the capacity to produce and export to them.”

“Are there any difficulties when dealing with international markets?”

Perla Perdomo

“With regard to Canada—even for the US—there are different measures that we have to take. We have to produce, for example, labels specified for the states. If you’re going to export to Los Angeles there’s a special label that you have to have for the person who is importing and regarding Canada we had to do it in French translations and the labels have to be approved, the samples had to be approved. So it’s a long process. It took about six months to get all the approvals in order for Canada.”

Traveller’s is currently exporting One Barrel rum to California, Chicago and Florida on a regular basis.  They have also sold Cane Juice Vodka to US in previous years.
