Librarians discuss how to keep reading alive in a digital age

Reading is one of the first things we learn in early education and it is a prerequisite to almost every aspect of life.  But the internet and television are keeping many away from the books. Earlier today we caught up with librarians at the Radisson where they were being trained to keep interest in books as part of the learning process.

“Often we tend to think that because computers are in place, libraries are now outdated, but that is not the case. All it means is that library has migrated to a different level, a different form of service, a different provision in terms of meeting the needs of users. I feel that reading is something that will never be outdated—whether it be in a different format, we will still need to read and there will always be a need for reading.”

“We are looking, over the past week, at illiteracy, online access to information—how best to search information using new resources, new source of information. It’s extremely relevant to today’s world and so we are trying to bring our library staff into that global environment.”
