Money missing from Police Exhibit Room

Twice in recent days, thousands of dollars kept as evidence at the Belize Police Department have gone missing.  A report has been made by the Exhibit Keeper, Noel Muschamp. According to Muschamp, six thousand dollars impounded from a Chinese businessman as forged dollars have disappeared.  The other case involves three thousand US dollars from six thousand seized from Diego Witz. Witz is the businessman busted with suspected cocaine that turned out to be fake. He walked from the charge but the money had not been returned and is now missing. A number of persons are suspects but charges have not been levied.  This is not the first such report of theft within the Department. In 2001 a well known police officer was accused of stealing money from the department after money was left in a locker.  No one was ever charge criminally.  The money was the proceeds of an alleged drug bust at a local hotel in which the police had seized some eight thousand dollars.

Lets not forget when a young businessman voluntarily handed in his licensed Glock pistol to the police after the brannon brothers murders, the gun was cleared and forensics said it was not used in the crime but later on when the young businessman went to the police armorer for his licensed firearm the armorer could not produce the firearm claiming that he left it in some room and someone stole it.

no surprise, actually they are thieves themselves so who’s gonna arrest them if they are the law, come on, we’re used to the fact that the thief will be found but nothing will be done after all. the worst thing to happen within the police department is thiefing so what a shame to them and to us a country with news like these being known internationally. jeez they lack respect and integrity to their duty as police department.

  11. Al says:

Wow, why is there no camera in the evidence room. How many people are allowed in and out of the evidence room? How many people have keys? is there no safe that requires two part combination for access. The person incharge of evidence protection should be fired now. It is his responsibility to secure evidence that is what he gets a paycheck for. I say fire him. Install cameras to the damn room. The worls must be laughing at what a poor set of suckers Belize people are. Even the people in Haiti is saying no more.

This is where our government officials, like our new Minister of Police and top police officials, should show they are serious. That is, if they are serious about law and order in our country. Examples like these make the general population lose faith and trust in the ever important police department. This seems like a clear case of corruption and negligence on the part of police officers. The people guilty of this crime should be dealt with immediately. Mr. Noel Muschamp is the first to be investigated…he should be able to provide answers to this……..let’s be our brother’s keeper and take back our BELOVED BELIZE.

  13. esther says:

HOW COME THE POLICE IS NOT INVESTIGATING MR. SCOTT. HE RECENTLY HAD BIG TIME WEDDING, HE RECENTLY BOUGHT A GUN COSTING $3,000.00 AND YET HE IS ON BIG TIME HONEYMOON. MR. MUSCHAMP HAVE WORK THERE FOR SO MANY YEAR AND NOTHING HAD EVER EVER WENT MISSING AND AS SOON AS THIS MR. SCOTT CAME TO WORK IN THE DEPARTMENT THIS MONEY GO MISSING… SO WHY IS IT THAT THEY DO NOT INVESTIGATE BEFORE PEOPLE POINTING FINGERS. FOR A FACT I KNOW THAT MR. SCOT USE TO LOCK UP HIMSELF WITH GIRL FOR OURS IN THE DEPARTMENT WHILE MR. MUSHAMP WAS NOT AROUND…… IN GOD EYES HE KNOWS WHO TOOK THIS MONEY .. I CAN HOPE THE THRUTH COMES OUT.. ITS NOT FAIR TO BLAME SOMEONE SO INNOCENT..

  14. T.Cunningham says:

Now we all know that Belize has some very corrupt officer, who only look out for themselves. Don’t accuse the exhibit keeper for reporting the crime. He did what was right….now the Bible says ” the Truth shall set you free”(John 8:32b). So before we make assumptions about a person- we got to keep an open mind about everything.

  15. 316 says:

I dont be surprised the cocaine confiscate recently will disappear as well, remember not all was destroyed. Sosa was kept as “evidence” jajaj what a joke.

Things like these must be investigate, and those responsible must be jailed.

Where is internal affairs, CIB, ADU, maybe all of them are involved.

    Things really ruff in Belize

  16. 316 says:

The customs department is heading the same way as the so called police department.

customs are strealing maybe more that 25% of our revenues. one stripe officers have 2009 vehicles, jewelery, and big houses.

and they have salaries of maybe less than 1500 per month.

oh and they take home all the whiskey they confiscate, jajaja

  17. BELIZEANGYPSY says:

Talking about Custom , a lot of us Belizeans living abroad work hard for what we have, send our family a little luxury for Christmas in barrels only to have the Custom Officers take out what they want. It really irks me —- something needs to be done about these unscrupulous Government workers.

  18. Earl Grey says:

IF YOU CAN’T TRUST THE POLICE…………………WHO CAN YOU TRUST?????????????

  19. michael says:

this is why this little country is regressing rather than improving, the people at the top in charge of sensitive materials and the country interest are either selling it or stealing it,there is no patriotism just how much they can get away with.

  20. errol says:

That’s why our country is in peril. Because of stupid people like you all. There are more than one side to a story. Get the facts first before you comment. Muschamp is a career police. He wouldn’t steal that money.
