Who will be the next Chief Justice?

Who will be the next Chief Justice? That’s the question that is being tossed around for months since the departure of the former Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh and the temporary appointment of Justice Samuel Awich as acting CJ.  We don’t know the answer, but we do know who is not likely in line, and that would be Justice Manuel Sosa.  We say that because there is information that Government intends to extend the Justice’s tenure on the Appeals Court for many more years. Justice Sosa’s appointment is coming to an end when he turns sixty-two in December so GOB is in the process of renewing that appointment for thirteen more years until the Judge reaches the age of seventy-five. There are only two other judges in the Appeals Court, Justices Denys Barrow and Dennis Morrison. Two other Appeals Court Judges – Justice Elliot Mottley and Boyd Carey departed under less than ideal circumstances.  Justice Mottley’s term was unilaterally reduced, which caused him to resign and Justice Carey was asked to leave before he had to.

this is exactly why pm barrow did what he did so he can appoint his family the job what a farce this sick pm and gov openly stealing everythig in site.

  2. GUINEA GRASS Observer says:

Belizeans, don’t be surprise if the new Chief Justice is Denys BARROW (brother of Dean Barrow).

Barrow has long interfere with the justice system of Belize. Barrow wants obedience from all sectors in Belize.

If this happens then Dean Barrow (PM of Belize) will have control in the THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT [ executive- himself, legislative- HoR, judicial- brother).

THIS MOVE WOULD BE IN CONTRARY TO THE PHILOSOPHY OF DEMOCRACY BECAUSE THE THREE POWERS OF GOVERNMENT ARE SEPARATED. THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY CHECK AND BALANCE.

There is also the theory that MEDIA is the other branch of government or the fourth power in a democratic regime!

If Borrow has blocked one media house (Channel 5), why he wouldn’t block the other media houses.

Its just my observation and my future perspective of what would happen. I call on Belizeans to look beyond their nose. I don’t care if I am criticized because of my opinion but I analyze the situation from different angles and see the POSSIBLE OUTCOMES.

I would be more than happy if I AM WRONG and I pray to be wrong on this situation.

Guinea Grass, I hope your prayers are answered. I want to believe that the PM is not that arrogant

  4. CEO says:

Judges need to be appointed for life this way there could be manipulation by the elected officials. If this happens they will be able to rule without fear or favor. The way the system is set up they are constantly in reaf of losing their job if they make the “wrong” ruling. Until this happens our courts in Belize will never get the respect it deserves.

A judges at 55 or 65 years of age is just at the prime of his carrier. These type of carriers needs much wisdom and an older person has the necessary wisdom.

Dean here is another change to consider if you have the good of the country at heart!

My money is on his Son Shaz Allah Abraham – whater the hell his name is now!

A few months as Chief Justice and he’ll have worked his return ticket to the USA! (Hopefully for good this time).
