Duets takes the stage on Channel Five

Story PictureIt begins tonight on Channel Five, it is Duets, a new show that will have you singing, dancing and rocking. Jose Sanchez tells you more about it.

Jose Sanchez, Reporting
When KTV made its debut on Channel Five seven years ago, no one expected it would become one of the most popular shows in local television history. Last year’s Ultimate KTV brought back old contestants and introduced the idea of texting to vote for favorite contestants.

Now that KTV is over, this year brings a fresh new concept called Duets.

William A. Neal, Host
“I think it’s really an evolution to give more people an opportunity other than just singers etcetera A chance to really come on TV and show their talents and get an opportunity to really, really show the variety of talent that we have in Belize. Bringing someone with you is really a challenge and I think that’s what Duets offers; something that you can actually interact with two people and once you put a television in front of people you don’t know what will happen and with two people you still don’t know what will happen. It really opens up the full gamut of the possibilities and I think that’s the beauty about this show. You’re not sure what you’re going to have but you’re going to have something spectacular once the cameras are turned on.”

And Neal himself once gave us a spectacular performance with song and dance during Ultimate KTV. Will he also do the same this year?

William Neal
“I don’t know if there is anything new that I can bring to duets in terms of a performance. I might have to find someone else and be like Michael Jackson and bring a monkey or something. It’s all spontaneous. That’s the thing about live television. I prefer live television because it’s spontaneous, because you never know even yourself, what will happen. Sometimes I look back at KTV you know, and I cringe at some of the things that I say and I do because never thought I’d do or say those things. But it’s the power of television in the end and you can expect anything. You can expect everything.”

“There was just one such performance in the audition that actually left the judges speechless. When Ann can’t say anything, Santi can’t open his mouth and Jenny is stunned … I couldn’t do anything but breakdown and laugh. I think it’s going to be that kind of show. You will be pleasantly surprised and not necessarily in a good way. But it’s going to be something that I think you just have to be open minded when you actually come and view the show.”

And while some things change, we still hope that the elements we loved remain the same. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

Duets show every Tuesday Night at nine here on Channel Five with repeats showing on Sunday’s at eight pm.
