PUP’s Oscar Rosado quits over death threats

So far, the United Democratic Party has held two very hotly contested conventions which all lead to the national elections. Well, one PUP aspirant, Oscar Rosado, has bowed out and he won’t be contesting conventions in the Port Loyola constituency where he ran last election, but was defeated. Rosado is also a front line campaigner for the Belizeans for Justice Organization. According to Rosado, he is bowing out because he has been getting death threats. But he is not only throwing in the towel for the elections, he’s calling quits as a PUP. When we checked, we were told that he hadn’t yet notified the PUP of his recent decision, but two weeks ago he sent in his name to contest the elections in the Port. According to Rosado, the decision was taken because of the death threats, which he suspects is coming from within his party.

fromafar, you seem to have nothing to do. Pick up a book and read so you can make more constructive comments.

death threats seem to be commonplace in Belize, are they ever investigated . Most of the members of this group Belizeans for Justice seem to have received death threats. Are they ever investigated by the police. they (GOB) owns BTL these texts and calls and Voice mails can be traced and the perpetrators charged. how many times have we heard on the news after someone is killed that he was receiving death threats via phone or text. what is the current law and does it apply to texting , voice mail or email

  4. K9 says:

The law does not apply to phone related contacts. Only for investigation reasons yes, but a phone call is no evidence in court. Anybody could have used the phone, so in court it would be a waste of time.

I guess the same applies to text messages on cellphones too, K9. I theory, anyone could have sent one from a phone, so that would be inadmisable in court too.

The only thing you could do, I guess, is that if you recognise the callers voice, you could apply for a restraining or protection order. Not that that would help in this country, with the Police force being as bad as they are………………….

Those making the threats are cowards anyway, haven’t got the guts to threaten face to face!
