Crimestoppers is raffling a furnished house

Still in the spirit of Christmas, Crimestoppers is offering a fully furnished house for ten dollars… if you’re lucky enough to win its Grand House Raffle. It is the second year of the raffle, which is one of the major fundraisers for the organization to pay out rewards for tips on criminal activity. The house is ready to live in and will be delivered to the lucky winner, but there’s not much time left to get your name in the game. The drawing is on Thursday so Francis Woods from Crimestoppers is urging the public to get to the tickets before it’s too late.

Francis Woods, Former Chairman, Crimestoppers Belize

“I’m trying to encourage folks to come out and buy their tickets at ten dollars apiece and hopefully they get a chance to win this beautiful sixteen by twenty-six foot house, fully furnished and delivered to their property within reason. We can’t really install it on a hillside or at the cayes. But once we can get the house to the location we’ll install it for them.”

“Can you tell us a bit more about the house itself; bedrooms etcetera?”

Francis Woods

“Okay it’s built out of treated pine. It has hardwood interior, a brand new refridge, kitchen cabinets and bathroom. It’s very—we put in brand new windows and it’s very ventilated so it’s very cool. The breeze goes right through it. It’s very well built; everything is square and leveled and it has all new paint on it, really fixed up nice as you can see.”

“And the proceeds, you mentioned it’s one of your fundraisers. So that means it goes towards rewards and so on for the crime stoppers?”

Francis Woods

“Exactly. The main reason for our fundraising is so we can pay the cost of prints that we do and rewards. We just recently gave out a reward for the recovery of a stolen vehicle valued at sixty to seventy thousand dollars. It was a pickup that was stolen in Belize City and it was recovered in Orange Walk. That was our latest success. But we’ve solved over forty cases, we’ve recovered over six hundred thousand dollars in stolen goods; everything from sailboats to computers to house items and now a pickup and of course we solved a couple murder cases and many drug related crimes.”

The raffle will be drawn at around six-thirty on Thursday. The house can be viewed and tickets can be purchased outside the Poundyard compound.
