Ontario villager charged with murder at the wake

Thirty-nine year old Godwin Santos, a resident of Ontario Village, was today formally charged with a single count of murder in the Belmopan Magistrate‘s Court. On Wednesday night during a wake, Santos stabbed Justin Jones once to the neck, in front of a number of mourners. Jones is the son-in-law of Joan Sutherland, who you have met through Belizeans for Justice, the organization at the frontline in the war against crime and other injustices. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has an update on the gruesome murder.

The stabbing death of twenty-two year old Justin Jones on Wednesday night in Ontario Village while attending a wake has dealt his mother Gladys Young another massive emotional blow. Last year, her eldest son Denbert was also fatally stabbed as he stood outside a nightclub on Caesar Ridge Road. It has been a long and difficult road for this parent but her unwavering faith in God is allowing her to come to terms with what has happened with her children.

“Well I thank the Lord that I also get to know my son throughout these years because life is short and we have to give thanks to the good Lord because see how quick he went away? Within the twinkling of an eye and I do not think it’s right that these young men keep on killing people out there because when they do that they will not only affect the person that they kill. They affect the whole family.”
Equally affected is Justin’s mother-in-law, Joan Sutherland. She too has lost a son in a fatal stabbing incident a few years ago. She remembers Justin particularly as a caring father to fourteen month old Nigel Jones.

“He was great. He was great as a father. Justin would leave his plate of food to go and change a pampers on his baby. Justin put that baby to sleep every, every single night. He put Nigel to sleep. Nigel is only fourteen months old. Now it makes me two grandchild that has been murdered and [it] was the same way by one stab wound. Alaine and Nigel. There’s no explanation. There’s no word of comforting.”
Godwin Santos, also known as Jack, has turned himself in to Belmopan police. Justin’s girlfriend says she knows him to be a troublesome individual.

The Christmas spirit for Jones’ family is dampened by grief as they prepare for his burial. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
Santos was not granted bail and was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until February fifteenth, 2011.

seriously, this azzhole thought it was a good idea to catch up on old beef? But, then again I am don’t live in the ‘streets’ where the mentality of these young men is an eye for an eye; to carry so much hate after so long is pretty sad.
People, lets stop for a minute and stop knocking ourselves over, we have been duped to think that only Belize has crime; or only Belize and Belizeans are acting like animals; we need to remember that this nation was once a peaceful country until we were exposed to the ‘modern’ world of greed and corruption and the worship of materialism and drug consumption and distribution. Crime is crime, murder is murder dont let statistics twist anything, America is a country that breeds people who can cold bloodily walk into a building and kill dozens of strangers because they had a bad day; yet these people look upon us like we are scum because we have murderers (plenty that was breed and thought in American who were deported) in Belize…we are simply victims are circumstance and we are simply considered (by the college professors) as collateral damage; Belize is a case study for many of colleges I presume; we are in a unique stage of development and outside influence and am sure some class somewhere is studying us like guinea pigs and recording and analyzing the effects.
Belizeans need to remember where we came from; our values, our culture…because right now our values is money, money, money, greed, greed, greed, materialism worshiping and our ‘idols’ now are what our youths see on t.v., our own talented musicians are scoffed at and shunned aside because they do not produce ‘pop’ music; they actually sing things with sense and intellect…yet we do not worship and jump up and down when you see them.
If Dean Barrow wants to save Belize is should continue his dictatorship and ban American television, issue an indefinite moratorium on curfew for kids; send in the police squad and lock up all parents who have their children on the streets begging, open that damn prison farm that Earl Grey keeps talking about and we need to stop effing around.
This country NEEDS a damn dictator because we Belizeans are acting like children; that is why Barrow is acting like a dictator because WE are giving him reason too!!!
