$40,000 plus stolen in burglary of Mount Carmel Credit Union

Between the close of business last Thursday and reopening time this morning, the Mount Carmel Credit Union in Benque Viejo Del Carmen was Burglarized. The thief or thieves gained access into the building by forcing open a burglar bar door and damaging a glass door. They helped themselves to a generous Christmas gift in cash that, according to reports totaled more than forty thousand dollars belonging to the credit union and Belize Electricity Limited. The robbers also stole a point thirty-eight revolver. The credit union was left ransacked and did not open for business today. Police are reviewing surveillance tape that can potentially lead to arrests.
