Cuban nationals sail into San Pedro at 2 a.m.

Seven Cuban refugees drifted onto the shores of Ambergris Caye at around two o’clock this morning. They arrived in a small boat, which carried mechanical equipment, as shown in these pictures provided by the San Pedro Sun. The Cubans came on shore in the Boca Del Rio area of the island where they were picked up by police. The seven Cubans were taken to the station where a doctor examined them and concluded that they were all in good health. We are told that Belize was not the intended destination of the Cubans, but when we checked this afternoon, they were being processed by the Immigration Department. It is not known if they will be allowed to remain in the country or if they will be put back at sea.

Are we sure they are Cubans & have we checked with Cuba to make sure they are not fugitives?

  2. Josie says:

These people risk it all, why put them back at sea.

    I agree Josie

  4. J. Guerra says:

Put Back to Sea? It just blows my mind that this is even an option. I thought we Belizeans were more civilized than that. How can the Belizean government allow that? This kind of treatment was the norm 200 or 300 years ago, but it is 2010. Now we are behaving like uncivilized arabs with very little conccern for human life . Next we will be chopping people’s heads left and right.

I say we put the Prime Minister and his whole cabinet in small boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean during the hurrican season. Now, you think about the latter, my Belizean peeps.

  5. Gio says:

@ J. Guerra…”uncivilized Arabs”? Your ignorance and racism is astonishing. By putting them back to sea, THEY DO NOT MEAN LITERALLY PUTTING THEM BACK ON THE CANOE. Easy with the hysteria people. If they do not remain in Belize they more than likely will be deported back to Cuba.

  6. The People Had Enough says:

did he bring any cigars? If not, send him back.

  7. The People Had Enough says:

    J. Guerra; are you some brainwashed American or something? What was with that comment about Arabs? PEOPLE all over the planet from all walks of life, culture and race are uncivilized; don’t be a racist douchbag; quit being a brainwashed sheep by the American media.
