2 brothers and a friend to stand trial for Attempted Murder
Just before noon, Denton Requena, his younger brother, Giovanni and their friend, David Sedacy, were committed to stand trial in the 2011 April session of the Supreme Court for a charge of attempted murder. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie after hearing submissions made by their defense attorney, Anthony Sylvester and prosecutor, Sergeant Egbert Castillo concluded that a prima facie case had been established against the three men to proceed to trial. The three are alleged to have been involved in a stabbing incident on July twenty-first on Allan Pitt’s Crescent in which Simon Velasquez was stabbed three times. The men claimed they had acted in self defense and that the witnesses for the prosecution had given conflicting accounts to the police. They also argued that it was Velasquez who had introduced a knife when the stabbing took place. But the Chief Magistrate ruled that there was enough evidence against the men to send the case up for trial at the Supreme Court. The men met bail this afternoon and were released.
Sounds like an acquittal waiting to happen. BQ, Mr. Singh can we mandate anger management classes for these young men & others like them who have been arrested for violent crimes?. I would prefer that we do not make conviction a precondition, if there is enough evidence to arrest & arraign them, set that as a condition of their bail or a requirement while they sit in jail awaiting trial. Call it brainwashing, call it whatever you want but have them attend the party every day like an alcoholic or drug addict trying to get & stay sober. It will not work for all but it may work for some & this story is a prime example of the silliness that is killing our children. None of them probably even remember what started the fight but risked their lives & almost took someone elses’.
THEN………….send them to THE PRISON FARM…. or we have to feed them fro the next few years.
AT THE PRISON FARM….. they can EARN THEIR KEEP and PROVIDE FOR SOCIETY.
BUILD THE PRISON FARM FAR AWAY FROM BELIZE CITY…….Kolbe is too close.
ms bznincali let me jst respond to ur comment and say that sometimes u need to get all the facts b4 jumping to such conclusions…..in this particular case it isnt anything abt not remembering or anything of such…infact these young men can fully remember the incident. this was an incident caused by provocation….we sometimes are quick to judge but never really ask ourselves how we’d react if we were in the situation.
