Suspected burglar caught after a month on the run
Five men were detained following a burglary on November twenty-sixth, but the man believed to be the mastermind, managed to escape from custody. Since then, Nelson Peters has been on the run but Ladyville police caught up with him on Monday. Today he appeared in court to be charged for the Burglary along with the four other accused men; twenty-five year old Lionel Brigal, twenty-four year old Ernel Caliz and two minors. Peters, like the four others, complained that he was brutalized by police while in detention. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of Burglary and was offered bail of four thousand dollars. Peters was also charged for Escape on Wednesday in the court of Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. He also pleaded not guilty to that charge.
The burglary occurred at the home of Herman Esquivel in the Vista Del Mar area of Ladyville. Peters and his four accomplices are accused of stealing two thousand, six hundred and forty dollars in electronics. That same night, police recovered a twenty-two inch flat screen television which was stolen from Esquivel. The accused men were present at the time of the bust and were detained. All five are due back in court on February fifteenth.
How many criminal charges does an alleged criminal have to have pending before he/she is denied bail?. Escaping from custody suggests that he has no respect authority & is obviously a flight risk. Did the Police really beat them up or did they hit each other to create the bruises they need to claim police brutality?
