Mother of youth who fell from cruise ship pleads for help
A Puerto Rican National who went missing while on a cruise ship in Belizean waters on January fifth has still not been found. Jose Miguel Pietri Tello was on board Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas with his mother when the incident occurred. The Belize Coast Guard and the Belize Port Authority conducted a search for Tello’s body but it was eventually called off. Tello’s mother left Puerto Rico, flew back to the United States and has returned with an attorney, hoping to either find him alive or at least recover his body. News Five spoke to the attorney and the inconsolable mother late this evening.
Ibrahim Reyes, Attorney for Margarita Tello
“We have the privilege of representing Margarita Tello, the mother of Jose Miguel Tello. As you know by now he was on the cruise ship, Liberty of the Seas. He fell off the ship on January the fifth just one week ago. She met me in Miami from Puerto Rico and we are here because she is a mother, I am a Christian and we are not done. We have hope that Jose Miguel may be alive. And if he is not alive, we hope to find his body. There are fishermen out there and many divers. And with the photograph they may be able to identify him. God knows we may have good news. It’s all in god’s hands but we have to do our part.”
Jose Sanchez
“There was conflicting reports that he may have jumped around 3:37, 3:38 in the morning—supposedly that it was suicide.”
Ibrahim Reyes
“It’s quite unfortunate that representatives from the cruise ship industry or else initially stated that just because a man was missing that he jumped overboard. This young man had no reason to commit suicide. Matter of fact, he was looking forward to the next day because he had a diving excursion that he was going to go on and that’s what he had been talking about all day so no. The theory of suicide we can discard it right now. We are going to be here until Saturday or until whatever it takes at the Radisson Hotel. My cell is 305-218-0982. They can contact us at the Radisson hotel and ask for me or the mother. I am in room 305.”
Jose Sanchez
“You’ve taken a long journey to com back to Belize, what is your hope at this time?”
Margarita Tello, mother of Jose Miguel Tello
“To find him, to find him. He is still missing. I cannot find him. Please whoever sees him, please contact us. I just want to know. It’s hard, he’s missing. He had a lot plans in his life. He is twenty-one.”
Ibrahim Reyes
“Premedical student well into his studies with a bright future ahead of him. I ask the people of Belize to please walk in her shoes, think about what she is going through and let’s see what God can do and we can do as people.”
Jose Sanchez
“It is late, but essentially you just want to know for sure. To have him receovered in some form?”
Margarita Tello
“Yes.”
Again, if you can assist the Tello’s you can reach Ibrahim Reyes at room 305 at the Radisson Fort George Hotel or at 305-218-0982.
Sad. I wish them well and hope that with time this mother will be able to deal with the loss of her son.
Lord I would hope they find him alive, with each passing day the chances are slimmer but miracles have been known to happen. My prayers go out to his family. This is truely unfortunate.
This whole story about the boy disappearance was fabricated to keep the cruise ship reputation on a clean sledge. People don’t just pay for a cruise to go commit suicide in another country. Foulplay.
The mother needs to offer a reward to get some information in this case; asking the Belizean public to take a walk in her shoe is not enough.
Good luck

WHY DOES THIS MAN HAVE TO EMPHASIZE THAT HE IS A CHRISTIAN?????????????????????????????????????HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Because we are..because we believe in GOD, because we will not rest until we have information about my brother…If YOU have any issues with you’re religion, that’s up to you…but instead of focusing on what’s important you comment on Christianity????….
I wonder if he was insured for millions????? HMMMM
sounds fishy!!!!!!
como madre que soy y abuela se el dolor que esta sintiendo y pido a Dios ayude a todos a poder encontrar la verdad y sobre todo a su hijo vivo y si este no es el caso por lo menos que sus restos puedan descansar donde su madre lo desea.
I went on Liberty of the Seas 4 days later, out of Miami. Royal Caribbean did not tell anyone that a passenger had “jumped” from the ship. It is VERY VERY difficult to just fall off the ship. They have glass over 4.5 feet high, especially on deck. I understand this is a very serious disturbing matter for the parties involved, however, why blame Royal Caribbean?? Also, what kind of passenger would be up at 3:38am that had not been drinking?? I wish everyone the best and hope to find Jose. The tape shows him “jumping”, no one else was on the tape, therefore what should people believe??
I saw this on Primer Impacto last night and couldn’t stop crying seeing how much pain and anguish the mother of this young man had all over her face. I truly hope and pray that you find your son. My ♥ goes out 2 la familia entera.
