Court of Appeal to rule on Gov’t debt to Sanitation Enterprises Limited
The President of the Court of Appeal Manuel Sosa heard his first case today since assuming the post. It was an application by the Government for a stay of execution. The facts are that on December twenty-second, 2010 Justice Legall ordered the Government to pay approximately one point seven million dollars to attorneys-at-law Barrow & Co who represent Sanitation Enterprises Limited by January fifteenth 2011. Instead of paying over the money, the Government has asked for a stay. Financial Secretary Joseph Waight admitted in an affidavit to the Court that “As the financial year is drawing to a close, most of the money voted by the National Assembly has already been spent and the remaining amount is hardly sufficient to administer the affairs of the Government during the remaining three months of the current financial year.” In other words, according to Waight, the Government is broke! Justice Sosa heard arguments today and will give his decision shortly.
If this is not incestuous & full of contradictions, please explain what is? And we keep asking the average Belizean to curb their greed & dishonesty.
And then we look at the man who grabs your chain on the street and call him “thief”….the Crime Suppression Unit is looking in the wrong place
One more insult to themselves, incapable of accomplishing even the simplest task, or even repairing their reputation by coming off as sympathetic. No government can possibly be this ineffective unless they simply don’t give a @#$! if the people live or !@#$%^&* die.
I am surprised, frankly, and shame at the amount of distrust, and stupidity that still exists in that GOB.
who owns Barrow and Co? how can legal fees be 1.7 MILLION dollars, is that LEGAL, maybe . is it MORAL? considering we don’t even have facilities to do a proper autopsy on a child. a day after after she goes missing the authorities perform a roadside quickie exam and bury her like an animal. WAKE UP BELIZE
SANITATION SHOULD NOT BE PRIVATIZED………….
IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS……
controlled by the local governments.
Gone are the days when the Town Boards or City Councils used to be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cities and towns. They had their own workers do all these tasks and never owed anyone millions of dollars. Having private companies do clean up was all a big hustle for party flunkies just fattening the pockets of one individual and look now what it’s got the government having to do. D@mn shame…only the taxpayers will lose in this battle because the money has to come from somewhere…guess income tax returns this year will be delayed…as usual.
So they spent all the money – probably most has left the country and been deposited into offshore accounts. If It were down to me, I’d make them pay up, though I would insist that the person or persons responsible do so, and not the taxpayer! 1.7 million could have funded health, education, poverty allieviation or even partly fund a proper forensics lab!
