Clifford Eagan shot because he lived near George Street

clifford eagan

A Belize City man was shot last night near his home.  The victim forty-seven year old Clifford Eagan is a security guard at Fultec on Coney Drive. Eagan who lives on West Street may have been shot simply because he was walking near George Street, where retaliation was expected for the Raymond Gentle murder. Eagan, an innocent victim by all accounts is in stable condition despite being shot in the neck.  Police Press Officer Fitzroy Yearwood said patrols had been stepped up in the affected neighborhoods.

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Police responded to a report on King Street where they saw

Clifford Eagan lying face down in a pool of blood. Further check on him they saw what appeared to be a wound somewhere in the neck area in the right upper shoulder. Eagan was transported to K.H.M.H. where he is presently receiving treatment. Initial investigation revealed that Eagan was walking on King Street when he heard what appeared to be a gunshot blast.”

Jose Sanchez

“Is that King Street in relation to George?”

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well somewhere in the area of, between Far West Street and George Street. He is actually a resident in the area. So [umm] he heard what appeared to be a gunshot blast and he said he felt a pain to the neck causing him to fall to the ground.”

Jose Sanchez

“On the streets, people are saying that there would have been a shooting in the George Street area simply as a form of retaliation for yesterday’s shooting and murder of Raymond Gentle.”

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well [ahm] people always have their own predictions and their own superstitions, Jose. In the police world, in the real world, we have to take every necessary precaution to try to prevent any form of retaliation. Our officers have been on the beat from even before this murder and they will continue being out there—you will see the uniformed presence as well as the operation officers and personnel will be on the ground. We have people in the George Street area. It is a known fact that members of the George Street Gang and members of the Kraal Road Gang are what I would say long time rivals and as a part of our necessary precaution, we will have our officers out.”

Jose Sanchez

“But at this point it just seems that that Mr. Eagan was an innocent person was shot.”

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood

“Yeah, he was just passing and it’s unfortunate.”

Eagan is still hospitalized but his condition is stable.

Fitzroy, you know Clifford, he was not doing an elfing thing other than coming home from work or walking his dog which if I remember correctly he does in the morning. He has lived in that area his entire life & has not been in any kind of trouble. I expected these fools to shoot someone but I assumed they would at least shoot the rats that have been shooting at them.

I wish you a speedy recovery Clifford. Derrick, stay strong for your Mom, you are in our prayers.

So sad to read about a hard working person got shot.again what is the Police Dept.doing? i would like to know how much mobile patrol the dept.have going in the city 24/7.G.O.B. give the police the tools to do the job.but with out the tools nothing will change. The B.D.F. look like the Boys Scout out there on the street,I thing the G.O.B. should hire the Private Security Force to take care of the crime in the country.Police/B.D.F. can’t do it.or Hire some of the Criminal to clean the city up.don’t see the B.D.F. to protect our country against our people or Guat. Make them into a Paramiltary Force.Like the Police Special Force was. and hire one commamder from England and you will see how fast things change in Belize.

    Be well, Clifford.
People still need to take more responsibility for themselves, Although it is possible for people in Belize to get shot while sleeping in their beds, or watching TV in the comfort of their own house, Avoid the streets in that area if necessary.

I’m assuming that most families living in those crime areas such as George Street, Kraal road, etc of Belize want to get out of those areas, but due to monetary problems they have to stay in those horrid places.

Build a fence around those neighbourhoods and let no one in or out if they don’t have jobs. Drastic measures need to be taken or next year we will have defeated ourselves once again by having these same meaningless ideas, and discussions, without any positive end results.

Don’t know why this jaguar unit don’t just lock down some of these neighborhoods and go door to door and do some search I am sure they would be able to find many guns and make many arrests, back in the days the cops used to block off the Yarborough area and makes lots of arrest at the bridge and that was only because those guys were back there smoking weed there was not this type of murdering going on so why not do the same now, have the laws changed so much that the cops no longer have the right to do so? just having police presence is not going to solve the problem they will just slow down until the police are no longer around, you got to get to the root of the problem I am sure the cops knows who these guys are that are causing the problems let’s make some unannounced calls on their homes when they are sleeping.

BZNinCALI – Much safer and easier for thes ‘brave’ gangsta cowards to shoot someone who can’t fire back at them….. But they forget, what goes around, comes around and you reap what you sow.

  6. daveyt says:

Get the Police & BDF to lock down those areas and search every building and person inside, then cast the net wider, block by block. Those with nothing to hide would be happy to cooperate, seeing that sometjhing positive is being done to combat a situation that’s gotten out of hand. Those who have will face stiff penalties, minimum 10 years without parole. This won’t legally happen unless the GOB announce a State of Emergency & Martial Law. Do that and the streets could be cleaned up before breakfast.

How difficult it is for some of us… to live and not to believe in God!!!

  11. Curious says:

These “waste of space” will not stop shooting until the day they die because this is exactly the kind of behavior their now deceased leader condoned. They so badly want to avenge “killa’s” death that they will shoot at anything that moves in the vicinity of the George street area. Best guess is that they are all battling for the post left vacant by their leader, which is the high point in their pathetic lives.

Despite reports made by different media houses and our very own Minister of Works, “killa” was no hero. He shed a lot of innocent blood, and didn’t serve a single day for his crimes.
