Weezy, the Musician, out of tune because cops busted his jaw
A local musician says he intends to sue for damages after a brutal run-in with police officers on the eighth of this month. Damion August, who goes by the stage name Weezy, says the cops broke his jaw and landed him in the hospital for a week. But aside from the physical pain, August says the incident is also hurting his pockets because he is now unable to record his music and he has had to cancel upcoming performances. Fresh out of the hospital, he came to our studios today and while he could barely talk because of the brace on his broken jaw, August says he wanted the public to know what the police officers are doing.

“I mi di come out ah wah taxi round by Michael’s School and I get out ah di taxi. Dah mi wah early morning last Saturday and when I get out ah di taxi, I pass Anchor Security and I knock down wah bike. Di security guard run out ah di place and holla how I di try thief di bike. Afta he holla dat, I walk wah few steps and wah police just come grab me, noh even present ihself as wah officer and start punch me inna my mouth. Same time di security guard come too when he si ah di grab me and start punch me inna my stomach and my eye and my mouth. Den wah truck pull up same time, and dehn ker me dah station and dehn gun butt me inna di same spot weh dehn punch me inna mi mouth. Now when I reach station now, dehn still di gun butt me. I noh try resist arrest and I noh try fight back. Den dehn got me inna station fi wah whole day. I tell dehn I feel like mi jaw bruk. Dehn time deh mi jaw done swell, my eye black and blue and dehn lef me deh until di night bout eight o’clock so fi reach hospital. I got wah Belizean award show weh I fi go perform right now, I can’t do nothing. I can’t eat, I can’t even sleep good. Right now I eena pain fi talk through this. Dis crazy mein.”

“Yes, I eena hospital whole week di go through pain. Right now I feel like I want pass out weh I noh di eat good. I want di public know weh dehn di do. Dehn chance people too much. Dis noh di work, Belize noh wah get nowhere like dis. Unnu wah di beat up di artist dehn and di bruk dehn mouth? So unnu want we do stop sing and just rebel out eena di streets like gunman too? I mek my report today, I done gone dah du ombudsman, I di try get wah lawyer right now cause I want sue dehn too mein. Dis crazy mein.”
August says he is being charged with Theft and Threatening Words.
Hope his jaw heals soon, a fellow has to eat & make a living. It would be nice to hear the security guard & policemen’s side too, that’s a heck of a misunderstanding if all he did was knock down a bike. Why did he knock the bike over?
Weird, you just got out of a taxi in front of the place where you accidently knocked down a bike and the officer only saw that specific incident with the bike. Although police do abuse their power in Belize, I am having trouble with varying suspicions here.
I hope that he does recover and and go back to make and honest living. What the hell is wrong with Belize Police Department. I know that there is more than one side to a story, but why would he come on the news to defend himself.
Every action has a reactions. Still the man have to eat!..
Obviously a hotspot, why didn’t he just have the taxi take him directly in front of his home? But, then again i know how police can abuse power, i have seen cops knock the teeth of of guys head for no reason at all, i have seen people get broken ribs while lying on the ground not resisting arrest…so this is hard to tell, and more than likely we will never get the full story.

It would be nice if this was caught on camera but if this guy is telling the truth then I hope he gets a good attorney to prove his case. Seems like a case of misunderstanding but to have your jaw broken if you weren’t resisting is excessive use of force during an arrest. I hope u don’t think this is an excuse to become a criminal because then I will call for a quick toss in the ocean for you. Like I say, the police need continuing training because we can’t have tax payer dollars go to paying off their misdeeds.
mein the police beat dat man bad i was there but didn’t want to interuppt so i held my peice he was tryin to steal the bike but he was not resistin arrest they jus start gun butting da man wen he done mi di tell them to carry him da station n it was officer lock dat did it but they did dat cause he was intoxicated still not a reason to do dat to him dat young man was jus high people stupid things wen their intoxicated still noh mean u chance them they won’t remember the next day sad nuthin came out of it barrow told them to charge him wit mischeivous act cause he was on the news too much dats ashame mister barrow vote u out next election
