Mother pleads to know the whereabouts of missing son, Matthew Gonzalez
Hope is slipping away for a Belize City woman, whose son went missing twelve days ago. Violet Jones says her son, Matthew Gonzalez went fishing earlier this month and no one has seen him since then. Gonzalez lived in san Pedro and his neighbor first alerted her that he had not been seen since January seventh. She fears that they are now searching for a body, which while painful would bring closure. According to Jones, her worries are compounded by the lack of response from the police department regarding the search Gonzalez and she is still pleading to public to come forward with any information that can help her find her son.
Violet Jones, Mother of Missing Man
“My son disappeared about the seventh of January. He went fishing and I got a call about the eleventh of January from a good friend of ours from Dangriga, who said she hadn’t seen my son for three days. That was the night so I couldn’t get in contact with anybody, so the morning I got in contact with everyone and no one had seen my son. So I went to San Pedro on the thirteenth, filed a complete police report. I took a picture of him with me and gave it to the police department and since then, I have no leads about my son.”

“So you think something happened to him out at sea or someone did something to him? What are your thoughts?”
Violet Jones
“Ma’am, the way Belize is going, I can’t say but since they say he went fishing, I would just hope that something happened to him at sea instead of thinking that somebody did something to him.”

“And have you heard anything from police regarding the search?”
Violet Jones
“No ma’am. Every day I have to be the one to call the Police Department in San Pedro and we still haven’t gotten no response. Every time I call—yesterday was the last time I called, they told me the police was not in office and I couldn’t get no answer from anybody else in the department. I think they’ve given up on the investigation and they don’t want to tell me yes they have given up on it. But I’ve got some people out there; my father, I’ve got my cousins them out in San Pedro still looking for the body—for my son. I wouldn’t say the body, they’re looking for my son. It’s been real rough, I have sleepless nights, can’t eat and right now I’m about to go to the doctor because I’m not feeling well.”
Gonzalez is muscular and stands about five feet eight inches tall. His distinguishing marks include a tattoo of his son Tyler’s name on one arm and Shantel on the other. He also has a gold tooth and a mark under his left eye. Anyone with information can call Jones at 607-4376 or Gonzalez’ sister at 667-2022.
WE HAD ENOUGH! WE DEMAND CHANGE! BELIZEANS UNITE OR PERISH!
i hope u make it safely home Mathew, i got u in my prays….we’re not giving up hope…..Jah just make sure where ever he’s at u watching over him.
Violet Jones, good luck in the search of either finding your son alive or dead, in any which case could bring a sense of relieve for you and your family. Your family is doing their part by searching for your son and not leaving this entirely up to the incompetent police, respect to your family..
This is typically Belizean culture, it happens at police stations, basically all governmental establishments. Even in time of desperation like this case one would be told that the head police or minister was not in office, ever.
If those in charge won’t stay in their office or cannot be reached in times of emergencies then why are they getting paid for a job not well done? When will Belizeans change this sickening way of dealing with issues, and dealing with people?
When will they set standards they can actually be respected for?
i think da family has to sacrifice & hire a private investigator, theirs a lot of un answered questions! don’t jump to conclusion saying he went fishing, that’s only one version. Am wondering if he”s a good swimmer doh, this wasn”t mentioned in any of da interviews!
If he went fishing, does anyone know where his favorite spots are. They can go out on searchs in the water but after 12days I don’t know how long someone would last if boat overturn or sink. Lord I hope they find your son Ms. Jones.
