First murder nolle prosequi for 2011
A man walked free this morning for a murder which occurred back in 2008. In the first nolle pros for this year, thirty six year old Roger Anthony, a known figure of Ghost Town gang walked from the murder of Dillon Bennett who was gunned down in October 2008 at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Mahogany Street. The court received a directive from the DPP’s office saying it will not proceed to trial but gave no reason why. Judge Adolph Lucas, however, questioned the length of time it took for the matter to come before the court since the directive was sent to the Registrar’s office on January eleventh. Anthony exited the defendant’s box, and rushed outside where he hugged his wife and left the area. Bennett, a resident of Mahogany Street, was in a green car waiting for the traffic lights to change at the corner of Mahogany and Central American Boulevard when a lone gunman pulled up and opened fire on him. He was also charged with the attempted murder of Akeem Gotoy, Henry Humes and Stephen Flowers, the others inside Bennett’s vehicle. In February 2005, he and Mark Alamilla were charged with the murder of mechanic Lloyd Bodden who was killed in front of his house on Ebony Street. He was later freed of the charge because Bodden’s wife, a key witness, went to live in the United States. Then along with Anthony Panting he walked from the murder of Kirk Ortega who was gunned down on September fourth, 2007 on Rio Hondo Street in front of Pratt’s Fry Chicken. That charge was withdrawn because a witness recanted her statement saying she did not see Ortega’s shooter.
We are missing the picture of this good looking rascal whom I would not like to meet in broad daylight let alone after dark. I hate to say this but if ever the streets needed to do its job, this is the time.
I like how Channel-5 puts it…….THE FIRST NOLLE PROSEQUI for the year…….
LIKE THEY EXPECT A LOT MORE………………..
.With the current DPP……NO SURPRISE!!!
So typical of the murderers in Belize. They always get away. They know it and that is why the crime rate is going up.Wonder why the DPP did not prosecute. Why are so many threats to witnesses not followed up?
If I were a gamber I would bet that in a few months there will be a headline that reads “Well known Ghost Town figure slain” the body of Roger Anthony riddled with bullet holes was found today. The killers or killer is still on the loose. This man or can I say animal, walked away from three or four murders, how can this be? This will be another “killa” situation, see even after Killa wanted to change they would not let him do so. Anthony’s wife and family had better start saving money for a funeral they will need it. Just look at the history of the other murderers who walked away from charges. The Bible says you live by the sword you die by the sword. Anthony’s sword is already being sharpened by some ambitious killer from Krall Road, Back a town or George Street. I hate the killing that is going on in Belize, our young men have nothing to look forward to, so death means nothing to them. Maybe I am too much of a thingking person, but I do not understand gangs, what is the purpose of gangs? Would it not be good for the country and the community if these people were to form gangs to clean up their neighborhoods. Compete to see who can build up the best neighgorhood and the cleanest. Please young people of Belize form a gang with a focus to do good and not evil. Let us put Belize on the map for doing something that is good, in the name of Jesus.
yow di an from lemonal fi free
@ Upnorth pls dont mention my village cause Lemonal have good people. Our Village is a peaceful place, lets keep it that way. We dont want any problems at our village. Mr. Anthony chooses to live his life that way, lets keep it that way.
The DPP should explain to the people why they drop the ball on this one .What do do you guys think.
