U.D.P.’s Mark King denied in Lake I

You might remember Mark King as a former City Councilor or more specifically as the Councilor who first blew the whistle on Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers when he made allegations of mismanagement.  Since then, we also heard from King when he  and former Deputy Mayor, Anthony Michael gave shelter to George Betson, who was forcefully removed from a piece of land on the Northern Highway three years ago.

But tonight King is back in the news and he is not happy with his party, or at least, his party’s Nominations Committee. King told News Five today that he applied to the U.D.P. for permission to run on their ticket in the Lake Independence Constituency for the 2013 General Elections.  Well the verdict is in and it is not favorable for King.  He said that the response was simply that his application was reviewed and disapproved and that no reason was given for the rejection.  King said that it was never his understanding that the penalty for speaking out against Moya Flowers at the time was this kind of sanction.  King, who ran for the U.D.P. in a convention in Lake I previously, would have liked to contest three others for the position of standard bearer for the party. Those two are Vanley Jenkins, Percy Murrillo and Councilor Dion Leslie. So you might ask what King’s next move will be following his rejection from the U.D.P. Nominations Committee.  Well he has already swung into action and fired off a letter to the party’s Secretary General, Philipa Bailey, expressing his views that the rejection denies him his constitutional right to run and portrays bias.  King also states that he has an audio recording of Bailey the then Party Chairman, Doug  Singh, in which they purportedly stated that he would be sanctioned for one term and then be allowed again to run. Coupled with the letter, King will meet with reporters in front of the U.D.P. headquarters at ten on Wednesday morning to further ventilate his frustration.  King told us that he applied long before the January fourteenth deadline, so that could not have been the reason for the rejection.
