Squatters reject invitation of Harmonyville developers
The land being reclaimed by the Belize Grass Roots Youth Empowerment Association, BGYEA, is thirteen hundred acres and includes an area already being settled by a group comprising mostly of Central American immigrants; they have named the area Valle Nuevo. BGYEA convened a meeting on Sunday for persons who want to legitimately own a piece of land in the new community. His invitation to those at Valle Nuevo was flatly rejected. So when he went to their site, BGYEA’s President Nigel Petillo’s presence erupted into heated exchanges with the land occupiers. News Five’s Marion Ali has the story.
There were two meetings held on Sunday on the Western Highway, one at Mile forty, occupied by mostly Hispanic settlers who originate from neighboring Guatemala. And there was another meeting half a mile further up the highway, for Belizeans who want to acquire an acre through the process being facilitated by the Belize Grass Roots Youth Empowerment Association, BGYEA. Both meetings had the same common objective; the people wanted to gain ownership of land in the area, previously called Capital Garden. But that was the only commonality between them. President of BGYEA, Nigel Petillo, arrived at the area to invite the settlers to BGYEA’s meeting, but that resulted in a back and forth between the two groups and our camera was there.
Dennis Avila, Settler, Mile 40
“We have been here for almost nine years, some over, some maybe five years, but we have been here working hard, we have been developing the land. And year and a half now, we have had some conflict with Mister Petillo. He came and art first, he told us that we were going to work together to try to see if we could get lands. Now what happen after that was that he now is trying to abuse our rights by the way that a lot of people have had lands, he came he destroyed any plants they had in it and gave it to other people.”
Marion Ali
“He can’t do that, it’s government land.”
Dennis Avila
“He cannot, but that’s what he’s doing.”
Nigel Petillo, President, BGYEA
“We come invite unu to the meeting. You guys know the official process that is being held here. Once again I’ll invite unu to come to the meeting. It’s about to begin ten o’clock. This resistance that you are creating here only wah hold back the process here. I have told all of you already that as long as you are here and you have your places developed here, you have wah piece of land fi get yah just like every other Belizean wah get wah one acre piece as well.”
Dennis Avila
“We did not know he had permission to survey from government until we went to speak to the Commissioner.”
“We explained to everybody, we brought a copy of the survey give it to the community with a copy of the approved plan by the Ministry of natural Resources again explaining to them the boundaries, the buffer zones and the one acre parcels so that they could all work together and abide by that approved plan. However we continue to proceed with our survey and it meant that we had to chop some limbs of different trees that were planted already so that we could pass through but we ask—dah noh like we just walk pan it. We haven’t touched nobody structure. We explain to some of them that some of the structure that are in the buffer zone; they deh ina di buffer zone, [so] they have to move.”
The squatters say they feel aggrieved because their rights are being violated through the new process, but BGYEA’s representatives maintain that they simply can’t be allowed to hold the large tracts of land when Belizeans are also in need of the land.
Ruben Hernandez, Settler, Ml 40
“What we want dah mek they respect our people. If this person develop ten acres and this person think fi lef six acres but ih wah lef two just an example right.”
Dianne Finnegan, Board Member, BGYEA
“And you keep saying our people and they. It’s not they or our people, it’s about Belizeans and what was asked is that each person who does not have a piece of land get an acre of land. So nobody can come and say oh they were clearing out ten acres and was squatting on it and we must respect that, no.”
“What happen with those areas over there? If we noh go inside to clean, nobody clean. Just want to come to take the pieces that is clean already, that’s the point.”
Kurt Garnett, Member, BGYEA
“Guatemala noh recognize fi we sovereignty you understand? So we shouldn’t even make wah Guatemalan wah Belizean citizen, but we do. Now that we do make you all citizens, uyou have to go through the process like anybody else and apply fi land.”
Dennis Avila
“You all claim that we are Guatemantecans that have come here.”
Kurt Garnett
“I’m giving you an instance. I noh the claim all ah unu dah Guatemantecans. I di give unu wah instance.”
“No but see, this dah the issue weh unu push all the time. And this dah weh we dislike cause we are all Belizeans. So why can’t you all call us Belizeans? Why do you have to call us Guatemantecans.”
The squatters did not attend BGYEA’s meeting and instead were taking down their own list of names. BGYEA contends that some of them will have to be relocated because there will be the buffer zone of two hundred feet from the highway, where some of the houses have been built. Whether those people will be compensated for the work and development they have invested on those lands is not yet certain, but they have told News Five that they got permission from Minister of State, Ramon Witz, to go ahead and occupy the land. We tried to get Witz to explain his position to us, but he was unavailable. As for BGYEA, the group had already completed phase one of the six-phase project, and one hundred and sixty two Belizeans who have paid for their surveys on their acre of land received tours of the area. Marion Ali for News Five.
Land leases are expected to be distributed at the end of next month.
Why is this even a debate? I don’t get it. Send these people packing, we need to stop !@#$%^&* around in this country, we now have Guats squatting on our land, in our country and have the audacity to feel like they have rights…oh, one of them said he has been living here for 9 whole years…how about Belizeans who actually were born in this country and are at least over 3 generations Belizean. No man, stop the debate with these people, just move their @$$#$ of OUR BELIZEAN land and give it to BELIZEANS, not some damn Guatemalans who just come here and want be called Belizeans…can’t even speak English. People this is just one of many examples of why our country is the way it is…everyone walks all over us and we tolerate it.
Something for nothing. If they had the option to do this in Guatemala, they would still be there. Squatters do not or should not have any real property rights unless they have been paying taxes on the land & only if the actual owner has not paid over a number of years then they are entitled to a seat at the table. They have not done that & are still complaining about being included. Last year, Boots tore down the home of the young man who works for the City Council when he took it upon himself to build in Belama, why should this group dictate terms of acquisition or division of land they do not own?
Let’s not whine about having cleaned or cleared the land, you did so without the owner’s permission & without consideration of soil erosion or other problems that could have occurred.. if the Minister made a deal with you, he now has amnesia. Get in line & work with the others to achieve a workable solution but demanding you get whatever acreage you want is unreasonable.
Why are we wasting our time with this back and forth nonsense. Belizeans should be our first preference. Let them get what is rightfully theirs. These Guatemalans have been doing this for as long as i can remember all over this country. SQUATTING. we should not tolerate them i agree send them all packing. Majority of them cant even speak English.
This is what happens when our politicians do not respect our constitution and our laws. These migrants are silently invading rural Belize and is being encourage by politicians in order to get a vote come election day. We in urban Belize are not aware of the thousands of immigrants who are living here and should not be going so according to our constitution. No politician who knowingly and willingly assist Guatemalans in getting on the voters list will get my vote and I am urging the rest of Belizeans to do the same.
I’m sorry but why should we even be arguing with these people, i understand that they are hard working and what not but to begin with they had no right in settling in those lands in the first place!!
There are plenty of Belizeans out there who don’t own a piece of land in our own damn country, you don’t see them giving us land in their one do you?? it’s a stupid debate, get them out of our country, sorry but they have no rights in the first place!!! Their rights are in Guatemala or Honduras, el Salvador wherever the hell they are from!
Funny, this sounds like the very debate the US citizens and US government is having about immigrants from Central America- including Belizeans who they call Mexicans. The world is round…
as a belizean i hate squaters worst if they are immigrants illegally living in our jewel, i’m in my thirties and haven’t had a chance to own a piece of our jewel while i see immigrants are granted land by ministers, area reps., what about us belizeans? shouldn’t we get the first chance to choose and refuse if we had to? i’d say send them back to their countries and cutt the crop of debating. i’m tired of we belizeans being left for last when dealing with land issues.
wow look at how much money Pm pay his wife to make sure the Maya people don;t get land right and now the Guat.Is taking over, what is he doing.Shame on the Pm Maya Belizean be proud of urself to stand up for your right.Mile 40 will become a killing ground soon.Guat .against Belizean.Long Over due and it is over land.
Defend BZ is right. We are being invaded by a much larger country, as every day more Guatemalans settle here and the government turns a blind eye. That’s how Belize will disappear, reabsorbed into Guatemala by illegal immigration. And sooner than you can believe.
them guatemalans should not even be there in the first place send them back long long garnett is right they don’t even respect our soveirenty weh di immigration man deh
Well everybody has the right for land. For those that say these people are aliens let me remind you that they have children which more than likely are belizeans. My dad was born in honduras, he now is a naturalized belizean. People come here in search of a better living, will we deny them that chance? If you do the math, if we shared the land equally amongst our population we would get at least 70 squared meters each! Isnt that enough to live in? Another point is that Mr. Petillo wants to take away land that is cleaned already, why dont they go and clean one, and claim that? We are the neighboring village, Cotton Tree, many of us young people dont have land as yet so shouldnt we be given first priority, before those from other districts?
It’s just a matter of time Belizeans and you will be the absolute minority in your own country, and that is if you aren’t already. The government needs to take on a China ruling mentality when it comes to borders and citizenship. Well, the Lock down and heavily patrol the borders. The Belizean people has to focus on trade development to compete in the world market. Produced in Belize and export everywhere. Easily said, difficult to do, but it’s a necessary step for Belize, and long overdue.
It’s just a matter of time Belizeans and you will be the absolute minority in your own country, and that is if you aren’t already. The government needs to take on a China ruling mentality when it comes to borders and citizenship. Well, the government… that’s the main problem for now. But, lock down and heavily patrol the borders. The Belizean people has to focus on trade development to compete in the world market. Produced in Belize and export everywhere. Easily said, difficult to do, but it’s a necessary step for Belize, and long overdue.
This guy Ruben Hernandez in not a Belizean, can we go to Guatemala and just take a piece of land. I notice that aliens can come in and just take any land and if a Belizean does it it is a problem. Belize is for Belizean wake up all you stupid people and give our land to Belizeans. Most of them come in clean a piece of land get papers sell and go back to Guatemala with our money.
I really don’t have a problem with Belizean owning a piece of land, but just listening to the lady Finnegan and can clearly see she is just greedy, her husband is a minister, they own so much land around and she still wants more, and people I can tell you she is a very prejudice person, ask her why she had to left Youth department, I really thought this BGYEA’s was trying to get land for the poor. not for those who already have like Diane Finnegan, and I agree with Nectaly if these so called aliens have already clean land, why can’t Petillo find another place. I was so upset at how they treated the so called aliens. Nobody would want to be treated like this dah STATES you know!! This is the kind of attitudes that creates hatred among our people!!! I knew for the beginning when Nigel Petillo got the OK to go ahead that it would create serious problems, and believe me if government don’t do something about this it will get out of hand. PETILLO I really though you were giving land to the poor, I am sure Diane Finnegan name is down for ACRES of land. Such a pity I can’t trust you again NIGEL PETILLO
Belizemk, at the rate that our youngmen are killing each other, we will soon be a minority indeed.
Nothing is sacred to our hopeful and serving “representatives.” They have proven time and time again that the only thing that matters is for them to get into the House, “no matta what!” In this case, the minister made his mess, got his votes and is “in a meeting.” But who is surprised? Wait until election season, then he will speak! Promises, promises…
How can you just sit on a piece of land and call it your own. Pay no tax on the land have no papers for the land and it is yours. How many Belize born own a piece of land? The foreigners come to Belize because many of the things they can do in Belize they can’ do in their homeland. No belizian can go to Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua or any CentraL American country and just squat on land and refuse to leave and call it their own. We need a government who is about protecting the Belizean people.
First of all, squatting is illegal by anyone, let alone by citizens of a country that claims another. The fact that they took it upon themselves to clear acreages without permission, is certainly not reason enough for entitlement. I think BGYEA is doing the right thing in streamlining and making accessible land for original indiginous Belizeans. These foreigners need to be put in their places. Evidently they cannot do this in their own country, so neither will it be tolerated in the Jewel. Don’t let anyone continue to mistake our kindness for weakness people, draw a line in the sand and hold your ground.
So immigrants squat on the land and farm it. The good thing is they are doing something good with the land, they are actually hard working people like the Mennonite community. The government should make farming communities fall under the same regulations as that of Spanish Lookout. Us the Belizean, we quick to want and take away land from hard workers and then turn around and sell it to investors for little to nothing. Many Belizeans do it for greed of money, root of all evil. Where is the pride, uno cruffy just like mek noise, but uno dah empty barrels.
Why don’t the complaining few get up, stop wine and find yourself a community and free land and start something on your own. This situation easy, just do the same thing. Belize has plenty land. Stop treating people the way we don’t like to be treated in other countries. The Bible says, remove the plank from your own eye first before trying to remove the splinter from your brothers eye”
I fully agree with Al as well as Queenelizabeth opinion. Seem like government should be in the middle of this serious matter to give it the propper ligitimacy it deserve. The potential for this getting out of hand is quite obvious. Don’t close the gate after the horse get out. What the hell is wrong with these so-call Ministers, can’t they see a problem on the horizon over this situation? Playing the old political game, stand back so as not to offend anyone.
I am a Belizean i need An acre of land….26years old and i can’t get one frigging inch, where is my tax money going?
I would like to clear something here. This land that is being surveyed was owned by a chinese man, who gave those settlers the right to work the land. He as the owner of the land allowed them to squat on it if we so want to call it. Now, Mr. Petillo has taken immigration there so many times and the reason they are still there is because these people are legally living in our country and have belizean children. Many if us belizeans are not getting a piece of land there not because the foreigners are there but because mr.Petillo and his movement are giving only those who he knows, wait not first time land owners, just those of his like. This is the reason our belize don’t move ahead because when we belizeans get a little power we abuse it. and greed is what he has, has he said who will own the buffer area. NOPE. He needs to be more transparent and be honest on why these foreigners aren’t supporting him. Please note aliens come from space and these people are foreigners.
I totally agree with Belizean …”So immigrants squat on the land and farm it….”. The next side of the road has plenty land also, why dont they fight for that? Because it’s not clean as yet…. The minute somebody “squats” on that they will want it also. Before Hon. Dean Barrow gave the go ahead Petillo was also squatting so all of a sudden that is a bad thing to do?
stop hating on the Guates, 90% of the doctors in KHMH are Guatemaltekans.
I am sure there is a political agenda behind Nigel Petillo,
We need to question John Saldivar and Dean Barrow!!!!
Petillo and Diane Finnegan behave like bullies cause the have the back up of the top people in cabinet!!
Sooner or later the truth will come out to light, I just can’t believe Diane Finnegan is part of this group, you bet my @$$ that she has been promised acres of land!
So who will benefit Nigel Petillo????
Again, once Finnegans involve the people will get the buccut ina dem @$$$!!! This is HON Finnegan”s famous word from his mouth.
That why the place name KILL HER MURDER HIM you all want to take over our country but not on my watch.
These Guats do as they like with us Belizeans and we don`t have the RIGHT to defend ourselves.
We need a revolution to get clear our view…Belize is for Belizeans and NOT for Guatemala.
Send them @$$#$ back to Guatemala now.
Or we can try to go squat in some Guat land to see how quick they will kill our @$$#$.
“stop hating on the Guates, 90% of the doctors in KHMH are Guatemaltekans.”
Bs!!
But the doctors are there legally, according to the laws of the land. They did not come to squat into the KHMH without a license.
Thank you Stephen , you are so very correct.
The Guatemalan Doctors get paid to do what they are doing, Guatemala gives nothing to Belize, but only problems. I have nothing on Central Americans or any foreigners coming to Belize, but what really gets me mad is that these people are monsterous. They have an aggressive attitude, even to their own Guatemalan authorities. Our Stupid Politicians are causing a lot of these problems on us the Original Belizeans. We have sometimes to bite our tongues and lips in order to maintain peace. How do you think these Foriegners knew the land was for grabs? Yes, through the Don’t Give A Damn Stupid Fool Politicians. We are always tricked into voting for some politicians, they put on the face of angels when they come along before elections, but when they sit in the Big Offices, we Belizeans become Foreigners to them. I see everyday an 80% of the people at lands to be foreigners. I am an indegenous of Belize and I am telling you that in the next 10 to 15 years there will be no Blacks here again> PERIOD I know you my Central American people. You see Belize as a place where you can just come and grab. Be reasonable, get your acre and be happy. Why did you leave your mother country??? I love you my Central Amerdican Brethrens, we should not hate one another. But also be considerate!!! I am home and you came into my lot, but you cannot take most of my lot. Respect my Belizean Brethrens. Hay que vivir en paz y tranquilidad. Conformese con su acre de terreno. Gracias!! Paz y Amor…..
OH MY GOD. DO SO DONT LIKE SO. PETILLO IS GETTING A DOSE OF WHAT HE DID. REMEMBER PEOPLE HE SQUATTED ON THIS LAND, BROUGHT OUT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE TO SHOW STRENGTH AND COWERED THE GOVERNMENT INTO SUBMISSION. HE WAS MADE MINISTER OF LANDS FOR HARMONYVILLE. THE LOCAL BELIZEANS OF SPANISH DECENT ARE ALL BONIFIDE BELIZEANS EITHER BY BIRTH OR NATURALIZATION. THEY WERE THEIR BEFORE PETILLO AND SOME HAD THE PERMISSION OF THE PREVIOUS OWNER. LETS STOP THIS RACISM KNEE JERK REACTION AND CALL FOR A RETURN TO THE RULE OF LAW WHERE NEITHER PETILLO NOR THE LOCAL SETTLERS WOULD RULE BUT THE DULY ELECTED GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY AND THE DULY ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE. ANY OTHER WAY TO RULE IS CHAOS
Shame on our government for allowing something like this to happen…. I think if Ramon Witz is supporting these foreigners…/// ALIENS /// against his own Belizean people then he has another thing coming. and for the idiot who claims that petillo is giving land to his friends or ‘his likes’ thats BULL$&!* I am a Belizean who has never owned a piece of land in my country, and never met Mr. Petillo until now and I got my piece along with many others so get ur facts str8. As Belizean citizens we need to stand in solidarity with the grassroots people. THE REAL BELIZEANS!!!
The problem with black Bzeans is that it hurts us to see another black man get ahead in life! All the while immigrants have been settling our lands and nobody complained about it. No complaining means that we don’t care. The minute the grassroots belizeans decided to take a stand everybody start to fight them down. If BGYEA were a group of immigrants fighting for our lands we would be ok with that but because its our own people we ready to be negative and fight them down. BELIZEANS NEED TO WAKE UP! GUATEMALA NO EVEN NEED FI ATTACK WE FI TEK OVA WE LAND. DEM JUST STEP IN AND DO IT AND WE CHEER THEM ON. WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!
People can come and do as they please here in Belize…No regulations for outsiders but they are quick to jump down our own Belizeans’ throat for property taxes, etc. EVERYONE should follow the rules and this squatters nonsense have to stop….they end up with land before Belizeans…BELIZE SHOULD BE FOR BELIZEANS!!!!
After reading people comment i think most of them are just writing without thinking. Why is it that most of the people in this country believe only pure Belizeans’ have the right in this country? Why is it that we call people Guatemalans, immigrants, among other things like “squatters”. We failed to understand that all of are descendant of immigrants and that many generations ago our great grand parents were slaves. The people who were occupying this land were the Mayas among other tribes. Why is it that we have human inequality? We think we are better than other? Why is it that the Creole people always want to take advantage of individuals who are humble and don’t have the aggressiveness like them. Belizeans will never prosper as a nation because we are selfish, greedy, unethical, we believe we are better than others. We fail to realize that all of us are equally important in this country. We like to prejudice other people but never look upon over-selves. Belizeans wants things easy, that’s why we will never stop violence, among other things. We love to fight for any thing. We are corrupted worst than the politics in this country. We just talk like parrots without educating ourselves and understand the legal matters behind this issue in order to talk something more accurate without offending any one. Even the media reporter can make an relevant, accurate and consistent report because they haven’t been educated properly. You need to investigate and have evidence in order to be accurate. But most of what i have read is just garbage. :”Poor Belizeans poor villager” fighting for land and politics are happy. Everybody speak about freedom and right but i guarantee none of these poor individuals don’t know the real essence of these words.
it seems very clear to me who d greedy ones at mile 41 -42 are. These immigrants are claiming 10 – 20 acres of our land EACH! and yet the Belizeans who are getting one acre plots are said to be greedy…. well maybe greedy has a new definition but the meaning which I am familiar with is this one
Greedy – Excessively desirous of acquiring or possessing, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves.
So grassroots Belizeans wanting one acre of what is rightfully theirs or immigrants wanting 10 – 20 acres of what is rightfully ours. you decide who da di greedy one ya
Petillo sound like wah bloody racist man! Some a those people were born in belize therefore they are Belizeans! N if the talk is about who is belizean and who isnt guess what we all have ancestors from different places.
TO BE HONEST, THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT EVEN BELIZEANS TO START WITH, THEY DONT SHARE THE STRUGGLE OR UNDERSTAND WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO STAND UP AND SAY I AM A BELIZEAN. FIRST OF ALL THANKS TO THE PEOPLE IN THE PAST WHO FOUGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE WITHOUT THEM THERE WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN A FLAG OR A DEMOCRACY. POLITICIANS COME IN AND LET THESE PEOPLE SQUAT FOR WHAT A VOTE, IF THEY USED THE POWER FOR RIGHTEOUS POWER THEN I WOULDNT MIND! SUB UMBRA FLORO UNDER THE SHADE WE FLOURISH BUT WE ARE PERISHING MORE THAN FLOURISHING! CANT PEOPLE SEE THAT THEY ARE NOT TAKING THE LAND AWAY COMPLETELY SIMPLY SHARING THE LAND! AN ACRE IS ENOUGH! DO WE WANT IMMIGRANTS TO HOLD A LAND WHILE YOUTHS ARE OUT THERE KILLING AND ROBBING AND STEALING BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION. GIVING THEM SOMETHING IN LIFE CAN CHANGE THEIR LIFE FOREVER. IT IS A GREAT FEELING TO OWN SOMETHING, KNOWING NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT FROM YOU! SOMETIMES WE CAN ALWAYS BAWL ON EDUCATION BECAUSE EDUCATION SIMPLY ISNT THE DEAL FOR EVERYONE IT IS SO TRUE SAD BUT ITS A FACT! I SUPPORT THE PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR A GOOD CAUSE THESE PEOPLE NUH WAH EAT THE LAND COME ON LETS SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE AFTER ALL THEY ARE BELIZEANS. IF THESE PEOPLE DONT WANT TO SHARE THE LAND WHY THE HELL ARE THEY EVEN IN BELIZE, IF THEY LIVED IN THEIR COUNTRY OR WHERE EVER THEY CAME FROM THEY COULDNT HAVE ACTED THIS WAY FOR SURE. ITS PEOPLE LIKE THIS THAT THE WORLD DOESNT NEED!
belizefirst, I think this has less to do with racism and more to do with patriotism. How ppl from a country that hates ours come here and squat on our land when we belizean can’t even get a piece of our own country. Look how the chiny man come here with his money and then tell our enemy he can squat on this land. why he do this? because he know he got his own country to go back to if things don’t work here. For us this is our country our blood and our life. Its hard to see ppl disrespect our sovereignty and come with bs about they are belizean just because they naturalized and have anchor baby when what they lack is patriotism.
Belizeans lets not become foreigners in our own country…if you let the enemy ride soon he will want to drive. and this is how dean say he want to give out amnesty? look how we already have to fight for land, come on… send these ppl back home how dare they get in belizean face and tell us what is what!
thats rite stephen my belizean ppl so y did our ppl fight for the battle of st georges caye come on ppl open unu eye every body have wah day yo eva yer the creole ppl have wah day look wats happenin around u if deh could wah come clam it y we cant claim it to!!!the government make it so easy thet dem panya could get naturalize no easy they should at least set some kind of standard for our country belize!!! i dont no bout any way else in the world u can go an claim ppl land that jus show u how stupid the belizean government is mexico dah fi mexican guatemal for gutimantacan!!!have u ever see a black man live ing in mexico or gutemale aww i dont think so ull be dead
….and the band plays on; this same gentleman along with a handful of others is about to sit in front of the PM’s Office in Belmopan and spend the night…instead of Belizeans getting off their lazy @$$#$ and go join a cause, they complain and complain and complain, if i didnt live a hundred miles from Belmopan, would be out there tonight protesting in solidarity with my Belizean brothers and sisters.
This is the # 1 Reason our politicians and every which foreigner from chinese to indian do what they want in Belize, because all Belizeans do is complain and do nothing, except come out in droves for conventions just because of either cheap or free liquor. !@#$%^&* shame, am thinking that the aliens should take over cause we too damn lazy and coward and cant unify for anything. These are dark days for Belize, these are the days that will show if we can unify; and show what we are made of…or we will be raped like Haiti and left to rot. Think its a joke; just wait and see, this whole country need to take to the streets, i am inspired by how the Egyptians are operating, they telling their president to get the hell out, we dont want you, cant you get it. BARROW GET THE HELL OUT, UDP GET THE HELL OUT, YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR US, WE DONT WANT YOU.
Who’s idea was it to give a squatter a right to distribute land ? The goverment should step in and do there job. People enough of the racist remarks lets all get along regardless of where we come from. God don’t like mean.
David Perez, you an idiot or what? Tell me , how is it that all of a sudden Creole people are trying to take advantage of other people that are not as aggressive as they are, when it is the foreigners that are squatting on Belizean land on portions ten times larger than what indigenous Kruffy are fighting for? Ahn, tell me !! Please Shut your mouth and be thought of as being a fool; because opening your mouth you have removed all doubt.
I LISTEN TO NEWS AND HEAR THESE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT LIVING IN THIS LAND FOR ABOUT EIGHT YEARS!!!
SO I WANT TO KNOW, WHO GAVE THEM THE LAND EIGHT YEARS AGO?????
WAS IT PUP OR UDP???? WHO WAS THE FIRST POLITICIAN THAT BROUGHT THESE PEOPLE FROM OVER THE BORDERS TO LIVE IN BELIZE???
THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING IN THE USA WITH OUR BELIZEANS WHEN THEY GO LIVE THERE. PEOPLE WE NEED TO LIVE IN PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER, AT THE END OF TIME ALL THIS WILL STAY BEHIND.
BELIEZEANS BEFORE YOU START PASSING YOUR REMARKS, LET FIND OUT WHO GAVE THEM THE LAND EIGHT YEARS AGO.
I agree with JahKid when he says “in the next 10 to 15 years there will be no Blacks here again” because, everyday in Belize City, blacks are killing each other.
DO YOU PEOPLE REALIZE WE ARE ALL FOREIGNERS IN THIS EARTH, HEY WE ARE JUST PASSING THROUGH, I WISH YOU GUYS WOULD STOP ALL THIS FIGHTING OVER LAND, WE WANT PEACE IN OUR COUNTRY, JESUS CHRIST SAY WE MUST LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS THE SAME WAY WE LOVE OUR SELVES, WHETHER WE ARE DARK SKIN OR LIGHT SKIN, IN THE EYES OF GOD WE ARE ALL THE SAME, CUT OUR SKIN AND ALL OF USE HAVE THE SAME COLOR BLOOD, PEOPLE LET THE GOVERNMENT SHARE THE LAND EQUALLY TO ALL, COMMON, TO MR NIGEL PETILLO I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT YOU TALK LIKE A RACIST, SOMETIMES WHEN WE HEAR HOW THEY TREAT OUR PEOPLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES, WE LAMENT ABOUT IT, THE SAME THING YOU ARE DOING TO THESE PEOPLE THAT COME HERE TO LIVE A BETTER LIFE, BELIZE IS A TRANQUIL HEAVEN, WE MUST MAKE CONTINUE TO KEEP LIKE THAT BY RESPECTING OTHERS, LOVING OTHERS, SHARING WITH OTHERS. I PRAY THAT A PEACEFUL SOLUTION TAKES PLACE, SOME OF US ARE TOO LOUD MOUTH, AGGRESSIVE. COMMON YOU ALL, LET SIT DOWN AND REASON, LET US MAKE PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER AND SHARE THE LAND EQUALLY.
GOD BLESS BELIZE
it seems to me that our Belizeans brothers are encouraging violence, you people have to think and realize that everybody have a right to a piece of land, if these people are living there for eight years or more why should they be moved? Mr petillo need to respect the fact that these people have been there before, why don’t he find another place to clear for his people??
large & Sexy – Yes, everybody should have the right to a piece of land. But only if they are willing to pay for it, and, and this is the important part, if they are in this country legally!!!!!
Too many rich landowners/politicians and business people are employing the illegal immigrants because they are not legal, and therefore do not enjoy the protection of the Labour Laws of Belize? Human Trafficking!!!!! Of course, those in power, and who should know better turn a blind eye, and allow it to carry on. Come election time, you see how many of these ‘Illegals’ get their citizenship, as long as they vote for the ruling party.
happens all the time, and it’s 30 years now – Isn’t it time for us to demand a change? Or have we not been shafted enough yet? Whatever happened to the Baymen Spirit? Belizeans used to be prepared to fight for what is right, anf for our rights, but now, we just rol over for another kicking, as long as the politrickians cross our palms with stolen silver every 5 years….
