Thieves break into Queen Square Anglican School; this is its third break in for 2011

Break-ins at schools are becoming common practice and for Queen’s Square Anglican School, they have become all too frequent. On Tuesday night, the school was targeted for the third time since the beginning of this year. It’s a crying shame because the school is already facing financial challenges. The thieves gained entry by breaking locks and there was not much that they could take, but they did leave behind a nasty message. News Five’s Marion Ali reports on the latest burglary at the school.

The thieves who broke into Queen’s Square Anglican Primary at the corner of Armadillo and Dolphin Streets did not take much, but they certainly left behind a pointed message.

This was what they wrote on the front of a desk; instructions with expletives that were later removed, to leave money in the office next time.

They got in by breaking these locks off the front door.  Once inside, the burglars had a field day ransacking the office and helping themselves to small appliances.

“They actually wrenched off the locks off the door for the office and the computer lab and the other two classrooms.  They took a mic that was recently bought for the school, they went with a fan and they also went with a five gallon bottle of water.”

Vice Principal of the school, Shilpa Jones, is asking residents of the area and passersby to report any suspicious activity at the school, especially at night.  Incidences like these, she says, have a negative effect on the children.

“They are shaken up, you know, they don’t want to leave anything, they feel like it’s going to be stolen or stuff like that.  So you know, we don’t want them to have that fear that if I leave something in my classroom overnight, tomorrow it might not be here.  That’s why we’re just appealing to the public, to the community, if you see anything, if you hear anything. You don’t have to come out and say stop.  Just call somebody, bring somebody’s attention to it because I mean, it’s really hurting the school.”

Because last night’s was not the first break-in at Queen’s Square Anglican since the start of the year, the school will appeal to the Ministry of Education’s District Education office to sponsor a security guard at night time.  Marion Ali for News Five.

Police have not detained anyone for the break-in.
