Dissension within the ranks of Telemedia Union
Among other issues plaguing the Communications Workers Union is dissension within the ranks of its executive. Since Perriott’s resignation last Friday, Mark Gladden has stepped up as the union’s president. Following last night’s meeting, a date has been set when an annual general meeting will be held to elect a new leader. Until then, Perriott continues to chart his personal and professional way forward but says he has not yet been paid by his former employer.
Senator Paul Perriott, Forced to Resign
“It was agreed that a date of the twenty-sixth of March would be the date that we would set for the annual general meeting and that has been agreed to also by the past president Mark Gladden who we’ve been having the conflict with. So we had also agreed to the twenty-sixth date and the membership agreed that that would have been the date that we’d use for the AGM. So the N.T.U.C.B. is sort of trying to mediate the whole issue and trying to ensure that the annual general meeting does happen on that date.”

“In terms of your personal way forward what’s next for you?”
Senator Paul Perriott
“Well as I said yesterday I am still looking at the legal options that I can use. At the moment I am trying to find if I can get assistance from the other unions with regards to filing some action. The N.T.U.C.B. have agreed to have us have a sit-down with them or myself, sit down with the N.T.U.C.B. executive and plan a way forward for us to move either if I’m going to take the action to court or whatever action I’m deciding to do. They are ready to join hands and assist in the matter. I can mention also that I have not received any monies from Telemedia as yet with regards to either my pension and the monies that they owe with regards to severance and whatever salaries that I’m due. I am still awaiting that from the company.”

“But senator I was made to understand that your notice, your resignation letter and the two-week or the period that you should have given advanced notice was waived to take effect immediately.”
Senator Paul Perriott
“Yes, that was to have taken effect from last Friday so I was expecting that maybe by Monday or Tuesday I would have been handed over the monies but up to today I still haven’t gotten that as yet.”
