Four charged for contraband liquors after early morning bust
It took a high speed chase on the highway in the north and a barb wire barrier for police and Customs officials to seize two vans containing a massive supply of contraband liquors in the Pine Ridge Area. While the Uncustommed goods were taken into custody, the occupants of the vehicle managed to getaway. But the cops have tracked them down and today four Belize City men; Akeem Reneau, brothers Amir and Andrew Garcia as well as Akeem Lord were arraigned at the Orange Walk Magistrates Court. Reneau pleaded guilty to Recklessly Acquiring Uncustommed Goods and the others were freed of the charges. The two vans contained a hundred and forty-four cases of Bailey’s, a total of two hundred and seventy-seven cases of assorted beers and two cases of Johnny Walk Black Whiskey. The liquors have a market value of forty-two thousand, eight hundred and eighty-eight dollars and for his guilty plea, Reneau was fined triple that amount. That’s one hundred and twenty-eight thousand, six hundred and sixty four dollars, which he has to pay by August first or spend two years in prison. The bust was made after three a.m. on Wednesday when the vans, which were rented, were seen travelling on the highway. When Customs officials attempted to intercept them at mile fifty-six, they men took off. During the chase, the men came across a barbed wire barrier and since they couldn’t drive over it, they abandoned the vehicles and escaped on foot. A Belize City license plate was found inside one of the vans and it was used to track down the drivers.

Let’s see if he pays the fine or goes to jail. If Stan is right, he should have enough money to stay out of jail. He knew this day would come & hopefully stashed enough of the profits.
Way to go Customs!!!! I just hope you really destroy the goods!!! Yeah rite and i wan believe that PLZZZZZ!!!!!! We will be watching you guys you know!!!!!!!!
Stan is a !@#$% he just give evidence that one of the dudes have a connection to large quantities of imported beers. Why Stan?!?!
Stan no panick, u could always buy u five case of Miller from the evidence room.just tell them grooveman sent u …….
These customs just blow who they want to blow. Everybody knows who the greatest bandits are here in Belize. If you do not know: that is The Belize Customs!
more party for customs officers or money to finance a new ride… I wonder if unu pay so good ROME!!!!
This is what happens when somebody no get his share in the transaction…otherwise, these things happen as ‘normal’, once everybody is kepy well greased……when drugs is destroyed, the media is invited….anybody ever hear about Customs publicly destroying evidence like this….well, only if U get to be invited when Custom man have bashment.
The solution to this problem is not catching and charging these guys. They are just the light weights or the “Mules”; go find who they are working for and which custom officer who is part and parcel of this “bootlegging” operation.
This is how you solve problems like this!
Couple questions that always bother me when I read the news! How the heck these guys always seem to be able to flee and illude the officers? Why when the police shoot nothing and no body drop? Here is my sugestion: take these guys to the gym and get them fit and take them to the range and make marksmen out of them.
here is why because when ever crooks have the sense that they will not get away with a crime they will not commit the crime. There will always be those that are either really stupid or really slick that will continue to comit crimes.
yea are right custom may enjoy bashment with this cargo but never inform the public the end of it, they knock down the poor who try to make a living winning a couple of dollars and left the big fish make miliions making them get shares
This is a waste of police force, we do not produce much liquor and only one beer in Belize, why we wasting energy trying to catch cantrabandetos? We have an oligarch of liquor producers in this country and they don’t want Belizeans to spend there money on some good ole competition liquor/beer and competitive prices, am sure if Corona would come here and at a competitive price they would kick the crap outta nasty @$$ belikin beer, sorry i love all things belizean, but belikin suck.
The corruption starts at the Top. Almost every middle class Belizean have a friend who probably knows a Custom Officer that can make things happen at the border. Have you noticed the rides and the houses of the Custom Officers? What are their wages? Go to their homes and you will see black label, baileys and I am sure that it wasn’t bought from the Distributors in Belize. Our country will continue to be corrupt if our leaders don’t make the necessary changes and lead by example.
I agree with sugar, if you no pay your dues to the custom and police bandits, you will spend time.
