Roaring Creek neighbor murdered because of a puppy

Lorenzo Ho

A spate of deadly violence plagued the three-day weekend. The bloodshed started on Saturday morning and in the next twenty-four hours, three persons had been killed separately in the City and in Roaring Creek. In the City, a grocery store owner and a father of two were murdered. But we start with a stabbing that ended the life of Lorenzo Ho. News Five’s Delahnie Bain headed to Roaring Creek where one man is in custody and Ho’s family is numb and only beginning to come to grips with the killing of one of their own.

Delahnie Bain, Reporting

After celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday on Saturday, the family of Lorenzo Ho, has been mourning his death since Sunday morning. Ho was killed during a fight with his next door neighbor, Erazmo Lino, who is said to have threatened him the previous night.

Albina Herrera, Mother of Lorenzo Ho

“Saturday dehn gone out dah some party and ih come hail me. Di bwai pass and ih seh I wah pop open yoh chest. I gone and I talk to my son. Ih seh ma I neva di faas wid ah and I believe ah because dehn mi deh pan di street dah wah vet house; dehn mi deh right deh di drink. Vilma Gentle, Aunt of Lorenzo Ho

Vilma Gentle

“From afta three Sunday morning Erazmo Lino come and stone up fi we house cross deh and ih ask fi Bush caz he want put a hole eena ih chest. My olda bredda get up and start to rail up wit ah and tell ah mek ih go from yah cause Bush no deh yah. Ho had been staying with relatives because of a dispute with his sister at home. His mother, Albina Herrera, says the confrontation was over a puppy, Ho bought a week earlier.

Albina Herrera

Albina Herrera

“Di puppy missing and dehn kill di puppy. But I neva tell ah cause I neva want ih do nothing out ha di way. All weh we tell ah dah how dehn thief di puppy and I gwein fi di puppy.   Ih just gone approach fi ih puppy cause ih cry living eye water, he want di puppy, ih want di puppy. Herrera says she made it to the hospital just minutes before her son passed away.

Albina Herrera

“By di time I reach dah hospital I si ah, ih holla Bina give me some wata, I want wata bad. But I done si di thing yah so, wah big chop, one yah, ih eye bruise up weh dehn mussy punch ah or something.  And I si dehn di pump ah and di pump ah. Ih eye turn up; ih lip blue, blue, blue and by di time my sista dehn bawl out I know my son gone. My son gone; twenty-fourth birthday. Only dat ih live fah, fi ih twenty-fourth birthday.”

But the reports reaching police about the incident are very different; in fact it is alleged that Ho made the first move.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Lorenzo Ho and Erazmo Lino were involved in an argument which led into some physical contact whereby it is alleged that Ho inflicted a cut wound to Lino somewhere in the forehead and his right arm. Apparently, he was attacking Lino again and Lino pulled out a knife and inflicted a stab wound to Ho somewhere in the chest area. I know that Ho was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Police are now awaiting directives on whether or not to bring a charge of Murder against Lino.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Police have since detained Lino and we have in custody the apparent weapon used to inflict the fatal wound. So far as the charges, I know that the file has been forwarded to the D.P.P. for her perusal and for instructions.”

Albina Herrera

“I si my son eena di morgue and I couldn’t believe dat dah my son. I wah bury my son. I wah bury my son. I can’t tek it. I can’t tek it. Ih got one lee bredda, ih lee bredda noh even di eat weh ih can’t tek it.  I mi love he noh care how bad he was bad, I mi love him.”

Delahnie Bain for News Five.

While the D.P.P.’s office has not yet issued directives, Belmopan Police this afternoon charged twenty-six year old Erazmo Lino with a single count of murder.   The construction worker appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas Junior and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May third.

  2. Storm says:

After conviction, murderers should be hanged. Stop the violence by getting rid of those who commit it!

  3. Disgusted! says:

This is just another ordinary day in Belize. One man slaughtered over a dog, one slaughtered over his own bicycle. one chinese grocer is butchered by burglars and Fitzroy Yearwood, the police press officer, gives the media a few minutes of rehearsed, monotonous, half-@$$ed bull$h!t and case solved. Foreigners beware!!!!!!!!!! Belizeans, arm yourselves for vigilante justice because the madness is getting worse!!!!!!!!!

  4. Maria Marshall says:

What a total waste of life !!!!

  5. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Roaring Creek is a small village with simple minded people, like ladyville a small village heavily influence by Belize city scumbags/criminals, hostility, and aggression. It has come down to this “violence speaks louder than words” even in the little villages of Belize.

From what I read here, it seems that Lorenzo Ho was a troubled man, he could not even live in peace with his sister under one domain. His personal issues may have caused him his life. Erazmo Lino is even more troubled than Ho though, his destruction was inevitable, and I hope the animal rot in jail.

  6. rod says:

see what i have telling you all things are still getting worse now they are being killed in threes fours definetely on pace to beat last year and this useless gov. and pm stand idly by and just watch still havent brought back the hanging penalty yes people make sure you are armed because with this impotent gov. and pm you have to defent yourself and your family. resign barrow resignnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  7. Earl Grey says:

MADDYVANDIJK………….The people in ROARING CREEK may be SIMPLE(uncomplicated)………
    NOT SIMPLE MINDED.

YOU INSULT THEM by saying that…………

SEND Erazmo Lino to THE PRISON FARM 4 LIFE…………There he can ERAN HIS KEEP and PROVIDE FOR THE REST OF SOCIETY at no cost to tax-payers.

  8. Stephen says:

Getting all the facts is a good thing as every story have two side. If Ho was taken to jail that morning when he was lighting his mother house fire, he would have still be alive, but she the mother refuse for the police to take him as it is her house. Look at the way how she cry and saying my little boy. The Bible always tell the truth if you live by the sword you will die by the sword. When Ho shot the boledo man he was never arrested and one year after that he shot his other neighbor son dead and someone else got arrested. Well, we will all know how much person he harm since he is dead as they will start to talk it. From the time you beat your own Father you are nothing good. On a whole these young men need to learn how to love and respect life. Some of us parents allowed our children to get murder as we never try talking to them or punish them in order for them to try and change. The moment the police hold them we cry foul he is a good boy. Well he is very good now and can cause no harm but I believe that there will be more killing in that village the church is doing a lot but one can not change someone who do not want to change. That village have the most church and to tell the truth Pastor Scott doing all he can but the parent encourage the violence. Check the gathering in that village with most families, when ever there is a party some gambling and the others are drinking and smoking marijuana and if you know them you will see that uncles, aunts, mother and father smoking with sons and daughter. Where is the respect in that, we all need to change and start to love.

  9. OnlyInBze says:

Apparently one of his brother was around that mention its best they battled it out, they should have atleast fight fair or even do a search if anyone had weapon.. Well, I cant even say back in days it was nothing but fist fight …and a sore loser had to take his lick and walk away but I guess the young man Ho was too strong, where the knife had to come out…Quite sad, there is no such thing as fair fight anymore, and if i should go farther there is no such thing as a honest GoB, but again times are changing another mother is crying, Belizeans For Justice will make there move now…Dont just wait for a cause, lets make some graphic videos of whats happening in the streets, drug trafficking, human trafficking as well as suspected ambitions of our croaked gov..Its no lies, attaining knowledge by just talking is not successful, lets make it graphical…I guess by now no one want to be short change by BWEL or any other gas company because statistics and data was shown to us………

  10. EMS says:

Beloved Mr. Grey??? Christianity/Church has failed the entire universe!!!! Pseudo Religiosity.

  11. Clifford says:

Earl Grey, I don’t think you even know what “church” is all about. So sad you can’t be even responsible for your own action. The church is not responsible for what you say and do!

  12. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Simple minded people can be defined in many different terms, depending on the context.
Simple minded people can be compared to being naive, having less worldly experience, etc.
Intellectually lazy can also be defined as “Simple minded people”.

People living life and being content with the little that they have can also be defined as “Simple minded people”. It’s not that complicated, really.

NOTE: The church have not have failed us, we have failed ourselves. Part of learning to live our lives in a normal society is developing the ability to accept what cannot be change with words instead of violence towards each other.

Embrace life with love not violence.

  13. Oscar965 says:

I agree withClifford. We are the church, each and everyone of us. All of us need to put our little grain of salt and contribute. But Earl has a right to express himself anyway he wants and I love this website for allowing us to do just that. Now this part is for “Disgusted”. Every town, city, and country has violence. Belize is no different. But without foreign investment this Belize will not move forward. I live in San Pedro and my town is a product of foreign investment and tourism. We have lost our “village life” and adopted a modern town filled with all kinds of problems we had never faced before..all in the name of expansion. My condolences to the family for thier loss

  14. belizeaninterest says:

People have choices, some choose to do good and some choose to do wrong. Those are our choices not the government.

  15. Edith says:

Maddy – I am from Roaring Creek and i take offense to your statement “the people from roaring creek are simple minded”. That is a stupid comment and i think u owe all of them an apology. I cannot understand how u sit their and type your idiotic comments when u have no idea about roaring creek or the people. I could curse, i could call u names, i could even threaten you, but that would make me no better than you – so i shall just say – think before u talk – or in this case – before u write and don’t presume to understand what you don’t know about.

As far as Lorenzo and Erasmus – (sucking my teeth) i think they knew exactly where they’re fighting would lead. Lorenzo (Jun Jun as he was known) was no saint – he did his $#*t and unfortunately it came back to bite him in his @$$. Erasmus (Juni as he was known) apparently stood up for himself after being repeatedly beaten and messed with by Jun Jun and his family. I don’t feel sorry for either of them because all they did was bring unecessary bad publicity to Roaring Creek.

As one of the simple minded (according to Maddy) people of Roaring Creek – i call on the government and the police department to start having more patrols in the village, start showing interest in the people and stop ignoring the law abiding residents because of a few bad seeds.

We cannot expect change to just happen we have to start implimenting it.

Again Maddy – i hope you’re educated enough to retract that statement!

God Bless Belize and let the violence (in the entire country) cease…

  16. Edith says:

Stephen – i totally agree with you – when will these parents STOP coming on television and swearing for their children. If your child is bad – he’s bad – don’t pretend he was something else – like i said earlier – EVERYBODY knew Jun Jun was a bad egg – it’s not a little bit he did in that village – his deeds just caught up with him.

I grow up ion that village and i made something of myself – my little brother grew up there too – we were neighbours to all this foolishness but we didn’t get pulled in. We had and still have a strong mother who would not take any $#!& and would not cover up for us.

You first learn respect at home – then u in turn give respect to others so u can be respected.

STOP TOLERATE THESE KIDS IN THEIR MADA!*$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. coolie gyal says:

agreed with mr. clifford……….and there is always two sides to a story but creole have a saying,”no fisherman nuh wa seh they fish stink” n so u may never kno the truth…bcz only one man get to tell his story. and for the records roaring creek happen to have smart ppl, they live the simple life n are not very materialistic but that makes them realistic not simple minded!!!. however true it may be that the victim did do a lot of things to other ppl in his past; “god does not propose to judge a man untill he is dead so y shud we?” so is it ur right to condemn a man who has done wrong? we are not god, only he has that right!! how wud u feel if it was ur own brother, son, cuzn, or even friend? the person who committed this murder’s fate as well is in the hands of the good lord, just like the victim’s was…however justice will always be underserved in our lil country bcz the system itself is void n corrupt!!!!

  18. Proud Belizean says:

Sad story…why people have to be killing each other senselessly?

  19. kikaC says:

hell of an hell the time” is near “as the bible said. either you be preparing you heart to God or the devil himself everyone had a choice. enough is enough ” let those who have ears here and eyes see. Youths give your life to God and keep out of the crimes and the killing don’t you love yourself a bit? when you love yourself you’ll love your neighbour. stop the smoking you will suffer lung cancer and other sicknesses. Gov’t should banned smoking and make the country rule under republic like Guatemala. You get all youths idling to join the force and learn a lesson their.

  20. BZNinCALI says:

Stephen & Edith, thanks for your input, the Mom’s explanation was clear as mud until she got to the end of her statement. It made no sense that someone would just kill someone else over a puppy but then again, we cannot seem to talk to each other. These were grown men, blaming the brother or Uncle who told them to duke it out excuses ignorance & stupidity, these gladiators chose to fight & Miss Bina needs to make sure her remaining son follows a different path.

Parents, please cut the crap, unruly bullish children are disruptive to a community & in this case even at home, do not expect other people to be tolerant of children we failed to mold.

  21. baby love says:

    stop the killing…

  22. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Edith, Roaring Creek is the neighboring village from where I was born, lived there long enough to know. Don’t use aggression or your ignorance to make a point in an already complicated situation, do the name calling thing, and curse yourself black and blue if that is your only option of making yourself feel less connected to the human race. When the fight has ended within yourself, you will have defeated yourself, once again.

Ho is dead because he and his murderer were both aggressive; a mourning mother and fatherless kids left behind. The violence is enough, and I’m sick and tired of it, even if the bloody crime was committed by a resident of Roaring Creek village.

I want Belizean people to learn how to solve their problems or conflicts with discussions, or words instead of aggression and violence, or am I the only one sick and tired of these animals ruining Belize.

  23. baby love says:

The people of Roaring Creek Village are not simple minded they are just a few of them that are giving the village a bad name. If Erasmus had follow his mother when she went to get him to go home from Lorenzo house none of this would have happen but he wanted to play like he bad. For the people that are saying that Lorenzo ho deserve what he got how will you feel if some one comes way inside your house and kill your child. Erasmus was telling Ho from early in the morning that any way he see him he will kill him and send him to hell so I dont think the police should say its self defence because Erasmus already had it plan that he will kill Lorenzo any way he see him so I think he should go to jail for life……

  24. Proud Roaring Creek Gyal says:

first off MADDY, i really do agree wit Edith……..dont judge us. I am from Roaring Creek and i am proud to be. I am not “simple minded” as u claimed and we know what u meant when u posted your first comment……..so please dont insult us further and try to justify what we all know you meant……

Secondly, the Church can only do so much…….its not mandatory for people to go to church…….its an option. Also, there are people that dont go to church that are decent respectable people……

This incident as i will refer to it as, is not a surprise to me. sorry if i may sound cold (which i am) but these children (because thats what they are) have no guidance, no discipline, no respect, or no love…..they dont love themselves so who else can they love.

I have know Lorenzo (jun jun) and Erazmos (juni) since they were babies. i watched them grew up. its jus so sad to know that they both leave behind innocent children to grow up in dis ugly world.

what we as parents (i am a parent) needs to realize is we are the ones that molds our childrens future. discipline our children in the rite way. stop running our hands in fire for them. stop shading their deeds. Jun Jun did a lot of things in his short life……..at 24 he did too much. but that still does not give anyone the right to take a life.

i am sick and tired of hearing people discriminate my beautiful village because of these useless young boys that watch too much rap videos and movies. they need to realize that the BS they are watching is just videos and movies they are not real life. its human nature to retaliate. so what do they think will happen if they hurt someone?……..

i am so proud of how my mother raised me…….she took a switch to my butt when she seen it necessary and im still here and a decent person. that same discipline will not be lost to my kids. they will know the consequences of unacceptable behavior.

God bless my beautiful Roaring Creek all of Belize

  25. The People Had Enough says:

Church not gonna help these folks in Roaring Creek, Earl Grey. These people seem to have been smite by God a long time ago for some reason or the other. I traverse to Belmopan a lot for business and sometimes spend the night, after a while you learn from locals in Belmopan that people from Roaring Creek are notorious trouble makers, always causing trouble in bars and clubs in Belmopan and Belmopan folks seem to hate the fact that when a crime happen in Roaring Creek they say Belmopan, lol. Sorry mein, but these people are straight up wild beasts; cut of young women’s head, stabbing each other over a dog, WTFF? think what you may about my comments; but that is fact, i have personally seem the behavior of these young morons from there on more than one occasion. Too bad that these useless twits give all in Roaring Creek a bad name.

  26. The People Had Enough says:

@ Edith: People in this country and all over the world need to start patrolling and policing their own community. All we do, especially in Belize, is blame GOB for our own nasty, behavior. I reiterate; we failed ourselves as a society, we raise children to be disrespectful, condone their behavior and are surprised when they act like packs of wild animals. If anyone is to blame it is the parents, the adults in communities, not the children; however, as belizeaninterest expressed, when you turn a young adult you should know right from wrong, however these young people these days are acting out of raw emotions, they have no knowledge of conflict resolution and can’t control their raw emotions and outburst, violence is how the deal with everything – again this is where parents have failed these kids from birth. So, what do we do, we blame to government for failing ourselves, only thing the government can do to stop this is treat us like wild animals and send out death squads to gun us down, lock us up, hang us etc…only one to blame is ourselves, society at large, we are all responsible for one and one for all. Belize is the tree, the villages and towns are the branches and the people are the leaves and the babies being born are the seeds, metaphorically speaking.

To you,Oscar965: I speak about that which concerns me…….(BELIZE!!!!!) Let the other countries of the worlds stress over their own problems. And which prospective investor in their right mind would you invite to Belize with our present crime rate, political climate, status on corruption watch and the history of tourists that been victims of crime in Belize?????? Take up residency in the city and try to live the pampered life you’re living in San Pedro then answer those questions before you respond to my comment amigo!!!!!!!

  29. Maestro says:

Well, what you so is what you reap. Young man had it coming from a few years ago when he attacked a Compre teacher. It’s just Karma and the world goes around. For every bad man there is an even badder man.

  30. Earl Grey says:

I still BELIEVE THAT if THE CHURCH reaches OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY and PREACH THE LOVE OF GOD and the 10 COMMANDMENTS ……….THERE WOULD BE LESS CRIME.

WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!!! even in Belize.

  31. BT says:

While it is easy to generalize, and understandable that law abiding residents of Roaring Creek would take offense, when you look at the history of violent crime in this particular village it does give reason to believe there is a serious social problem in Roaring Creek. When people are willing to cut off the head of a woman so another woman can steal her baby, or murder someone over a puppy, you’ve got much more than a public image problem in your community.

  32. Elgin Martinez says:

belizeaninterest: The Government also have a responsibility to it’s Citizens which is to protect them from both foreign and domestic enemies. For eg with the the present gang violence in the Jewel GOB can impose curfew or whatever it take to get these idiots off the streets.Belizean Citizens are not suppose to go about their daily lives in fear as a result of these idiots actions.Mr Barrow need to start working for his pay?

  33. belizeanpride says:

Earl Grey kindly stop blaming the church, for so long the gospel has been preached and are still preaching in tv, radios and other media form but it’s something personal if a person wants to live a low wicked life or live a life like someone with a sense of life appreciation, we need to appreciate life. since it’s one time there’s no spare. But see if you might ask how many time has this two guys visited a church maybe never or did once. so, the church won’t force them to come in it’s them personally willingly to walk in there and decide to change their life around and be someone productive in the cumminty and life a tranquil spiritual life also. So please stop blaming the church.

  34. spanglish says:

roaring creek have a christian radio station what the heck are they waiting for, its time to intercede for the village, common PLUS TV, stop going politicky, PLEASE, its time to be doers of the word.

  35. pb says:

Earl Grey!!!!! Who is the Church? It starts with you and me Bro. The Church is doing their part to equip the believers to go out and proclaim the Good News that God is Love. That only through God we can have Salvation. However, People hear the Word sit on it! Use it for their benefit and dont spread the Word. Most of the Youths today are lost because they have no role model. The few who are trying to make a difference is not enough for the state Belize is in now. So instead of criticizing the Church who have weekly, (some daily) meetings for men women and child. Reach out and touch 1 person if that person is touched and share with 1 other person. You will begin to see God’s Glory. On one occasion, I touched 4 only 1 responded but that 1 has now touched so many lives through ministry. Have a Bless day!!!

If trying to pull me down is gonna make u feel better about your lowly pathetic self – go ahead sweety – i live to please!

Have an enjoyable day and an even better week – you stupid stupid soul!!!!!!!!

    BIG BIG SMOOCHIES 🙂

  38. Elgin Martinez says:

I’ve stated numerous times on this blog that i do not condone violence .However if things transpired as Mr Yearwood stated then i can only assume that my family acted in selfdefense. The sad part about this situation is that he’s got to life with the fact that this young man is dead.My deepest condolence goes to the family of the deceased i hope it had turned out differenly. This is the reason why we’ve got to think before we act people because there are certain things in life that are not reversable.

  39. Edith says:

… I get it Maddy – u take an educated response as call it aggression – I apologize for presuming u would understand “real” talk – that’s my bad 🙂

@The people had enough – you are right – we cannot always expect the government to do for us – we have to be the change we want to see. Unfortunately, as u pointed out, the good people suffer along with the bad!

I agree – stories are always circling about Roaring Creek people – i guess because i grew up there i can see beyond the hype. I hope you are never victim to any of their foolichness on your numerous business trips – have a blessed day!

  41. Clifford says:

The solution to all the crime and violence and all the evil things happening throughout Belize and the world is “TURNING TO GOD!” No matter how much we say, who we blame and such will NOT solve the problem. Police, soldiers, politicians, ministers, prime ministers, pastors or “the church” will not change it! Changes starts in the heart of each individual! And “changing” mean fixing our relationship with God. Some people may say, “Christians are still doing evil things”. If there are those who claim to be christian and still doing evil, then they are NOT christians!!! Come on people, why do we have to pretend to be so smart??? Doesn’t matter how educated you claim to be, that wouldn’t change a thing! Come on guys! Lets divert our thinking. Why not we take a little time to say a prayer for the country of Belize instead of just blaming others??

@ witness, I had to read your post when I had time & appreciate your input. I hope you have shared this information with the Police & maybe by putting her name out there, the girlfriend & mother will learn something from this experience & the next mother’s son will keep his pants on & not be egged on by a foul mouth woman & adults with no common sense or conscience.

hey Its no time to point fingers on who did what an who did not. Its time to be a family an br one!! Im from Creek as well, yes we might have our negative side but there is also positive to it. Every body plays their part but we cant force truth into someone if they don’t care to listen. U can take the horse to the river but u CANT force him to drink. We cant blame the church, we are the church its up to u to do ure part. We can only do so much its up to them to take heed. the ball is your court, u choose. LIFE or DEATH.The bible say we are called according to his purposes. Its up to u to know ur calling and purpose. If that was his purpose then maybe he fulfilled it who know what u confess with your mouth is the motivation of the heart.

To respond to whoever thinks RC ppl are simple minded. U have no right to judge everyone by the actions of one of a few actions of other. There are a lot of respectable ppl who work hard and have nice jobs @ RC. It is so unfortunate when situations like these happen and we can only pray for better days. Anyone residing in RC know the young man murdered as being a very troubled young man always getting into trouble and that was the case sense high school. he and a few other were kick out for attacking a teacher i know he well well known for stealing ppls dogs and engaging dem in dog fights until death. the other young man however is known as a family man. he doesnt get into much trouble and he just keeps to himself and i was really surprised to her he was involved in sumthing like this. i just pray for both parents and hope that they can get true this.

Eloquently written and much needed public response. We can never “understand” to the point of rationalizing God’s Word. Thank you brother Steve for standing soundly upon God’s Word and His blessed covenant of marriage. I am praying for Pat Robinson and those who respect his advice.
