American faces 30 years if convicted of sex crime

A few days ago, U.S. authorities reported that they had smashed an international pedophile ring and rescued two hundred and thirty-four children. This Tuesday, an elderly U.S. citizen was indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Wisconsin for “traveling in foreign commerce and engaging in and attempting to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.” It’s a long charge but it all boils down to the arrest of seventy-one year old Roland J. Flath who is facing serious charges before the U.S. courts for a visit to Belize in July 2006 and allegedly molesting a minor. Flath was charged in abscencia in the Wisconsin court in October 2010 when a criminal complaint was filed, but it wasn’t until February of this year that he was arrested in Guatemala and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals. The elderly man is no first time offender and his record includes charges for Possession of Child Pornography and Sexual Assault of a Child. If convicted of the latest charge, Flath faces a prison term of up to thirty years and a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar fine. The case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. based initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

This animal travelled in foreign commerce engaging in and attempting to engage in illicit sexual conduct in Belize and probably Guatemala where he was caught and quickly expelled into officials’ hands. Unfortunately He was not caught in Belize; I would have suggested the death sentence.

What is our GOB planning to do about his system being burrowing into by the anti-socials of the American system? Right now It seem like the international relationship deal that the GOB signed with American also made it legal for their criminals to abuse our system and get away with it. I believe in fair trade, but how many Belizeans in the American prisons have to do their time before they are deported back to their birth land.
