Where is the solution to crime?

John Briceño

While the P.U.P. protest continued below the stairs of the parliament in the sweltering heat, the leader of the opposition continued his assault on the administration’s budget. With over twenty murders since the beginning of the year and countless shootings, the Opposition believes that government hasn’t provided a viable solution to crime.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“The Prime Minister’s fourth pillar was combating crime. Since January 2010 there has been a hundred and forty-five murders in Belize. If this is any measure of the Prime Minister success in fighting crime, then his fourth pillar falters disastrously and supports nothing. Belizeans know that there is no success and we all agree that the much talked about Restore Belize was nothing more than a few workshops and a catchy song. In his desperation for any kind of measure, we are now told by the Prime Minister that he is pinning his hopes on a plan that will provide jobs for high energy gang members in rural communities where jobs are already as scarce as U.D.P. truth. We were told the U.D.P. had a 360 degree approach to crime that would see an end to the violence and crime and yet today Belize and especially Belize City is one of the most violent places on the planet. So when we ask Belizeans about this budget , when we ask Belizeans to point out how many of the promises made to them in 2008 were accomplished last year and how many they believe will be accomplished this year; they say with one united voice none.”

That’s helpful. There is no solution. More police patrols. More monitoring of police through internal affairs or even an outside agency. Ask the Brits for help! Put the US Marines on the job! Impose stricter regiment on BDF so when they are on duty they aren’t sitting under a tree with their assault rilfe laying on the ground or hitting on teenage girls while drinking a beer????? That’s a start.

John, I’m with you on not placing gang members in the villages for any reason, many already have their own & those crimes are going unsolved as well. Let’s not forget, there was a 14 year old & a couple others chopped up & shot in your district last year. I would like to hear your suggestions on how we can stop the blood shed.

Belizeans have asked for the death penalty for these cold blooded murderers, we have asked for witness protection so that we can get convictions, we have asked that parents be held responsible when minors are involved, many of us have even sanctioned using mercenaries to help clean up our streets. The law abiding people need relief not rhetoric. Share your plan….

I can see that fools are talking but fools are not reading! What is the cause of crime in the first place? We can say for sure poverty. Which party have us in this place right now? The after claps of the PUP are now evident. They have done so much harm to Belize that now the UDP is taking all the blame. This government inherited all these problems from the PUP government. These gang members are not not just killing each other, this has been happening, why is it such a big deal now? Well its simple, the PUP has drained us of everything. and the UDP is working wit what it was given, so dont cast that stone idiot, think of what you are saying. I can see that some of you just speak from thin air, you have no logical sense. If you cant be logical, please dont come back here and say anything else. You emotions is speaking way more than your mind, wonder if you passed algebra in high school
