P.U.P. Protest Government’s Budget; supporters ejected from House
The debate on the budget 2011-2012 got underway today in Belmopan. The leader of the Opposition, John Briceño, was first to deliver his presentation; it was a punchy speech with good sound bytes that drew holes in the Prime Minister’s budget of eight hundred and forty-three million dollars in revenue and grants and eight hundred and eighty-nine in expenditures. But the melt-down came just after Briceño had concluded his presentation. The house proceedings had to be interrupted when hell broke loose between party supporters in the gallery. One U.D.P. supporter was asked to leave, then “Yellowman”, Macebearer and U.D.P. Stalwart, accompanied by police attempted to have several P.U.P. supporters ejected. And that’s when the commotion spread to the streets. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has the first story in our detailed coverage of the day’s events in Belmopan.

Tension ran high among supporters of the People’s United Party this morning on Independence Hill following an outburst inside the galleries of the Assembly Building which led to the ejection of several spectators. The eruption came at the start of the 2011-2012 Budget Debate as Minister of Public Service John Saldivar was making his presentation.
On the outside P.U.P. stalwarts protested angrily, flags and banners in hand, chanting their party’s slogan before an effigy of the prime minister. According to Opposition Leader John Briceno the removal of his supporters from the balcony shows the partiality with which the situation was being handled.
John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition
“We came out for two reasons. One is that I believe that it is unfair when the mace bearer is trying to get our people out and they threw them out. Because on the other side of the house here we have people behaving even in a worst fashion [by] hurling insults and hollering while I was speaking. So I came out in solidarity with them but at the same time I came out to address these people that are here with us today to tell them how much we appreciate that they are here with us in solidarity. To tell them that we understand the pain that they are going through, that we are listening to their concerns and that we agree with them that the people are tired of the Dean Barrow U.D.P. Administration.”
Elsewhere during the demonstration officers attached to the Belmopan police formation stood vigil over the throng ensuring that things did not escalate beyond their control. Among the protestors were some who believe that a fellow party member and head of its women’s group was maliciously exposed in a recent issue of the Guardian Newspaper. A placard waved above them shows two pairs of female underwear with the names of the newspaper editor and his talk show co-host.

“The reason why I have this sign is because Friday I gone and I defend ah woman who denya one decide fu disgrace and disrespect eena di Guardian. In defense ah di woman ih neva have nothing fi do wid politics. Dehn spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday di dedicate time di try defame me and discredit me because I defend ah woman so I figure maybe dehn panty to tight. So I bring some bigger ones fi dehn. This one wah fit dehn more comfortably. If da lady dehn wahn be I could show dehn how fu be woman.”
Undoubtedly the decision to publish the image of Gina Tillett in the UDP’s weekly organ has raised the ire of the Belizean public including many within the opposition party. That however is only part of the reason why they’ve converged on the hill.
“There are many points that they are here fighting on. The number one is the issue of jobs, jobs, jobs! They can’t get one job. They can’t get one piece of land. Cost of living continues to go up. Crime continues to escalate. It is totally out of control. If there is one theme, if there is one message the people are tired of the suffering that is being administered by this UDP government on the Belizean people.”
Echoing that sentiment is this protestor, one of many who made the journey to the capital city in a fleet of buses that shuttled supporters here.

“Me and my family is not willing to vote for them no more because you know what after all you do for them, you put them eena power dehn wah use fi dehn power against we the people, we the Belizean people that give them the power. Because we vote that da di one weh count at the end of the day. Right now we have to deh behind them trying to get a head way with them and what dehn do to we da send police afta we. Dehn chase we out, outta fi dehn office like we da dog. I had an appointment, I came here from Monday. I was here Monday morning to see Mr. Gaspar Vega.”
…and while she did not get to see the Minister of Natural Resources on either attempts her message, along with those who were also protesting in Belmopan this morning was loud and clear. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
I watched this political circus on the internet last night in utter shock, disgust and humiliation. This side -show in the parliamentary building that was broadcasted around the globe for all the world to see, was one of the worse international embarrassments I’ve ever witnessed on live television. This is just a confirmation to the entire world that Belize is a nation of uncivilized neanderthals and savages disguised as politicians and their minions. Yet we get offended when we are referred to as backwards and third world. Well, this is the straw that broke the camel’s back and if we expect the developed world to take us seriously and look at us with respect as a democratic, independent nation, we don’t stand a snowball’s !@#%ING chance in hell of that happening! My God, I sat transfixed as one degrading remark and derogatory insult after another was hurled across the national assembly building by elected ministers of government and ghetto thugs, and the speaker of the house sat there like a school girl that wet her panties and refused to exercised his authority. This has got to be the most appalling !@#$%^%$#@ thing freak-show I’ve ever witnessed. What a !$#@ING SHAME AND DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!! SMM-FH!!!!!!!
Now, I am going to get real personal and dirty here because I have an inalienable right to express my personal opinion and I speak with personal knowledge that I can prove…. Yellowman is an illiterate piece of DOG$%@T and both his parents were crackheads. This disgraceful amimal is a gross embarrassment and insult to the people of Belize and is unfit to bear the symbol of integrity in the house of representative. However, this is the disease that is spread when you use floor cloth to dress your dinner table. This U.D.P./ Dean Barrow lapdog is riding a high horse but he will attempt to bully and disrespect one mad man too many and then……… I will come back to blog about the result!!!!
Two ….. for the too #@#%!@# at Wave radio but one giant size brief is missing for the beached walrus Juliet Thimbriel!!!!! Yesterday I said that a Tsunami would hit Wave Radio and this is just the first phase of it. The worst is yet to come. This is your undoing Joe, Juliette and Alfonso……….you ain’t seen nothin yet. THE PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH AND HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED!!!!!!!Kudos to Marisa Quan and the women’s department!!!!! ANN MARIE WILLIAMS Mc DONALD…YOU’RE NEXT IN LINE FOR THE CHOPPING BLOCK!!!!!!! DON’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
march my belizeans march show this useless impotentent gov. and pm that you have had enough all a we the starve while the pm and his family and friends are making millions of dollars ask the pm about his big bank account in miami while our population are out here killing themselves for a few dollars they sit back and do nothing where is the pm on all this crime where is the minister of police where is the minister of defence on all this crime are they all hiding from the public hoping that you will forget that they exist come on my belizeans march its time to get rid of this corrupt gov and pm march resign barrow resignnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Well in all honesty the national assembly building is NOT a place for noisy, unruly people to be in! Whether or not these folks were unfairly ejected or not, this place is actually where the leaders meet to discuss and agree or disagree on various issues. We simply cannot allow citizens to get involved with voicing their opinions while these leaders are doing their house presentations. I don’t think its the venue for this type of public outcry. Now u could do it outside. Cry, scream, shout or whatever! So I do think that whether blue or red if ur conducting urself in such a manner then ur ejection from this venue is a justified one!
Both PUP& UDP have done a great job, turning belizeans against each other.if a revolution rise up in belize, the killing will be against pup and udp deciples.while the real problem in belize are the the 2 LAWFIRMS(pup&udp)who run belize to the mud.both mafia parties are like a cancer that is eating and killing belizeans.time has come to get rid of that cancer by any means,
I believe in fighting for what you believe in, but the way my people acted yesterday in House was way out of hand for both parties. In no other part of the world these things happen but Belize. Come on people we are investing money into our kids education and this is how our people act! It is a shame.
Very well said Prince Michaels.
Not a fan of our gracious dictator – but this is what happens when the PUP bring out their “rent a mob” to cause distraction. PUP must be hitting the bottom of the barrel now if that is all they can afford to rent.
Desperation must be hitting the PUP – Hyde and Espat no show, Briceno reading what sounds like a Party convention speech rather than a counter argument (This crowd Haffta go…..etc etc), Musa read a pretty good argument but was ripped to shreds by Melvin Hulse (as he admitted, hardly the intellectual) straight afterwards…all very weak.
Time for the third party to step up to the plate or another UDP term is on the cards.
For the life of me I keep thinking how the hell can they use Yellowman as a role model for our youths. With him as a role model no wonder the kids are the way they are. Bravo Dean Barrow and your illiterate crew. Before now and up to the present time he was inducted into the UDP hall of shame, he was out at night terrorizing the little Hispanic people and drunks, robbing them of their bicycles and emptying their pockets while on the ground. I witnessed that personally and on many occasions. That was his special weekend duties. What have Belize come to my goodness? We are a doomed people and I hope Guatemala succeed in taking over Belize because the way we behave, we have no right to it. I hope no one youtube this crap. This is what you get when you allow duncy, illiterate people to run for a political position. Like the people in Port Loyola once stated, they would rather have Boots as their leader because they cannot relate to Ms Dolores. Well now they are getting their just deserve because there is no way in hell i would want to relate to someone like Boots that have no education. Belizeans are so lazy that their best assets are to settle for less. I’m sorry but my goal is to reach for the stars but ghetto people would prefer you bring the stars to them instead of reaching for it. The proof is in the pudding because they prefer Boots which happens to be the constituency with the most crime and murders committed. Don’t complain now, your votes were bought and paid for in full and i’m sure it wasn’t even worth the $50.00 you received for it. All these political people makes me sick and I mean all. Bar none. Can’t believe you all would stoop to such a level. You all are no piece better than 2 whores on the streets disrespecting each other but thats ok Mr Prime minister because when its your time to burn in hell,i hope the devil will read you your rites and have you watch your grandchildren and their children suffer the same fate that you are inflicting on the people of that country. Its a damn shame that such ugliness lives in our beautiful Belize.
They say that……………… “FISH STINKS FROM THE HEAD DOWN”.
WE NEED LEADERS FROM THE CHURCH or at least who GO TO CHURCH.
WE NEED LEADERS WITH HIGHER MORAL STANDING AND INTEGRITY.
WE NEED LEADERS WHO ………LEAD!!!!
Thank goodness we are some sort of DEMOCRACY……….ELECTIONS ARE COMING!!!
WILL WE VOTE IN THE “OTHER BUMS” OR SEEK A THIRD PARTY????????????
What we need in Belize is a Pied Piper that will play to the tune that these rats dance to and lead them all off the edge of the highest mountain in Belize that way we will rid the country of all the scums and can start over anew. I have always said these rats have the criminals working for them both parties do and that is the reason why the crime rate is out of hand they have signed a pact with the devil in order to advance their wealth building legacy scheme. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.
STUPID PROTEST THE JOB ISSUE ITS BECAUSE OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRISIS WE ARE FACING …….
First of all I want to agree with all who were have recognize that the behavior in the nonorable house was unbecoming.
Second I want to say that the media house should not have air all that drama. yes thats one way they make an interesting and popular story but it should not be at the expense of this country. How can we expect the people of this country to behave in a civil manner when they are seeing profanity and unhearness furry that has no place in conflict resolution or for the proper assessment of the budget.
I call on all Belizeans to demand a change and a public apology from both sides. This present government and the opposition are not suitable to lead this country.
Next I want gov to reconsider and pull out those criminals that were sent to PG. We dont need more negative influence here at all. Take them back!!!
While I agree that behaviour of some members of Parliament in the House of Representative leaves a lot to be desired, I must say to those pretending that this kind of behaviour is unique to Belize, get your facts right. This is a common occurence in the British Parliament and in parliament and others through out the world. Its just politicians putting on an act to let the masses think that they really are passionate about the deceptions coming out of their mouths. After the sitting, they meet up at private parties and have a good laugh about it.
I dont think that people should jump to conclusion about what happen today. Only civilized people should be allowed into that place to watch the debate. The debate is already one of high temp. and they dont need any interference.
If you take a good luck at both Government, you will see that PUP always push the country into chaos for 10 years, then UDP comes in and cleans up the mess and get things rolling again. What we are experiencing right now is what PUP has left for us, and the UDP is doing a great job in taking back what belongs to the people of Belize! Think people think! You expect milk and honey from UDP while PUP has taken all that away, isnt that why you voted them out miserably in the first place? Keep the part that rebuilds the nation. I consider PUP as republican [president Bush] and UDP as democrats [President Clinton]. Which one do you prefer? its that simple!
u wrong buddy……….mr. outcry……Dean Barrow is a right wing himself!!!!!!!!
I want to say – thank you for this
