O.W. East Rep. blames Deputy P.M. for neglected constituents

Marcel Cardona

Marcel’s meltdown during the 2011-2012 budget debate is surely one that political pundits will ponder for a while. Cardona, it seems will be a one hit wonder in the United Democratic Party.  He called the Prime Minister a puppet master and the deputy prime minister greedy and many are forecasting that his days in the party are numbered. But what caused the Orange Walk East Representative to make a kamikaze move on his own party? According to Cardona, it’s because his duties as area representative have been usurped by Orlando Burns, the man who is expected to succeed him as area representative at the end of his term. Cardona says this has all been done with the blessing of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Marcel Cardona, Orange Walk East Representative

“Being only human—flesh and blood—I could not help but envy only a fraction of the projects he had implemented in his constituency and wonder if his greed and selfishness in only worrying about and looking after his own welfare and those of his constituents was not the reason why Orange Walk East had been deprived of so much of the limited resources which this government has available to it. The Deputy Prime Minister then proudly asserted and I quote, “We have delivered in Orange Walk North.” However, my only response was but at whose expense?” But what about Orange Walk East? Everything must be done the proper way, the right way, in political constituencies, except in Orange Walk East constituency where private citizens who are not publically elected are allowed if not encouraged to continuously disrespect the people of the Orange Walk East constituency and the people’s duly elected representative by exercising the power or authority which should be exercised by the duly elected and constitutionally elected mind you area representative, case in point: the land situation in Orange Walk East where three long years of lobbying bore no fruit but one week after the Sunday, December twelfth, 2010 Convention in Orange Walk East, the wannabe area representative has become the de facto although not the de jure area representative. He is being allowed to exercise all the powers of the constitutionally elected area representative to distribute government lands even when he has not been elected by the majority of people in a general election. The deputy Prime Minister spoke about numerous projects including land survey projects, land distributions projects, a new water reservoir for San Juan, proper drainage projects, etc. He even mentioned that he had installed fifty new culverts in Trial Farm Village. I could not help but wonder why with so much plentiful taxpayers’ resources available to the Deputy Prime Minister for one village alone, one village alone. Why it was virtually impossible for the past two years to obtain five culverts to service the entire Orange Walk East constituency. Or even one desperately needed water reservoir in Chan Pine Ridge Village where the current water reservoir is in danger of falling down because it is leaking, it is severely corroded. Or a polyclinic for the Louisiana Area that could service the whole southern section of Orange Walk Town. There are never any funds or resources for these special infrastructural projects for Orange Walk East because the big fish like the Deputy Prime Minister keep on gobbling these for themselves alone—all the available resources.”
