Guatemalan National gets fined for Grievous Harm
Guatemalan National, twenty-three year old Manuel De Jesus Lopez Gomez, was charged with four offences following the stabbing of Clive Hyde on September nineteenth 2009. In January, the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the charges of Attempted Murder and Dangerous Harm and Lopez was later granted bail. His trial concluded late Monday evening, when Lopez was convicted of the two remaining charges, Grievous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. The Chief Magistrate speared him a prison term and imposed a fine of three thousand dollars for Grievous Harm and two thousand, five hundred dollars for Use of Deadly Means of Harm. The fines must be paid by June seventh or Lopez will spend a total of five years in prison. According to Hyde, he had an altercation with Lopez, who pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the stomach. But in his defense, Lopez said that Hyde was harassing him for money, which he did not have and when tried to leave, he was punched in the face twice and that’s what led to the struggle.
Guatemalan or not, if this was a case of self defense then this is a grave injustice, but that’s the norm in Belize. If he is guilty I hope he pays his dues and not abscond! Next case!!!
I second that, Disgusted!
I would’ve stabbed his @$$ too. This incident happened since 2009 so I would think that he wanted to run ,he would’ve because its now 2yrs later.I’m happy he stood up and defend himself. In Belize they take a lot of advantage to theses Hispanic people just because they are foreigners but just goes to show that not all of them are push overs.
There we go again!!! Big, young, strong guys not wanting to work!!! (others will bring in fancy talking saying they have been marginalized) – But come on Belize. Many of us were brought up poor, very poor but now these youths all they want it to smoke a ganja and hang out. Parents don’t care or even hang out as well. GET YOUR @$$#$ TO WORK!!!!!
whats is my belize coming too lord watch over them pleaze.stop the killing and lets enjoy our lives i have plans to come home and some of my friends want to vist i speak so highly of belize and this is whats going on all this robbing and killing how are we going to hae a country that is peaceful and how is it that visters can come and have a peace of mind when all this is happening come on belize we need the vister.so all you who are out their trying to commit crime you should pay with time.go get a joy.let belize be a place you want to vist
If it were me, I’d have gone home to Guatemala ages ago. There’s no justice in this country, and this only proves that.
I honestly didn’t want to sound bias and racist in my comments but in all honesty, I do believe this young man was a victim of these black lazy @$$ drug addicted lowlifes who roam the streets of Belize and prey on the vulnerable. Particularly hispanics. Like I said, if this was a case of self defense, then maybe the victim should have killed the sorry @$$ …….!$#%er and get off on a technicality. I am sick and tired of the rampant injustice in Belize. SICK AND TIRED OF IT!!!!!!!
A certain disgusted guy is going to get a heart attack or stomach ulcer pretty soon. I would advice him to keep it cool and stop foaming from the mouth. You cant change a thing with your tirade and vulgarity, except getting yourself all worked up. Chill!!
WATEVER wisdom, watever! I tend to behave that way when I see injustice.
At least my heart attack and ulcer will be for a worthy cause. Pray that the same doesn’t befall you for worrying about my comments. Obviously the vulgarity and tirade thrills you because you particularly took the time to read and respond to me. Good. At least I have someone’s attention since none of the schmucks in government give a rat’s @$$ what we say on these blogs anyway. Thanks for being a fan!!! (smiles and blushes!)
I agree with you “WISDOM”. No need for vulgarity. And another thing…when ur mad about the situation in Belize “DISGUSTED” don’t mention anything about a man’s color. there are lazy drug addicted lowlifes, as you call them, across Belizean ethnic groups. If you know anything about your own country, the blacks are not the only ones committing the crimes and hanging out on the streets in Belize. I inhaled the stench of ur racial comment and it stinks! This is the kind of thing that gets us far from anywhere.
