Attempted murder because of TV; cousin sets cousin ablaze
No one will dispute that there is an abundance of violence on television and it is debated that the programs are influential to rogue behavior. But a nineteen year old resident of San Pedro Town is in critical condition tonight not because of the program he watched, but because he moved a TV. According to reports, Rene Martinez is alleging that his cousin, Elijia Kelly tried to snuff out his life inside his grandfather’s home. At three-fifty on Tuesday evening inside Santo Elijio’s residence, Martinez removed his grandfather’s twelve inch television set and placed it in the living room. While he and a friend watched a program, Kelly demanded to know why the TV was removed from her room. Kelly then unplugged the TV and after a brief struggle she took gained possession of the set. Martinez retreated to the kitchen to wash dishes when he felt a cool liquid pouring down his back. At that moment, Martinez turned around and saw his cousin flick a lighter and set him on fire, after which she ran out of the house. Martinez’s friend helped him out the flames on his burning body. An uncle came by and helped him reach the San Pedro Poly clinic. The victim was then transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is currently admitted in a critical condition. Police have since detained Kelly pending charges.

This is what human life in Belize have been reduced to because no-one is afraid the law or the lack thereof! One of the local attorn eys will get her acquitted on a technicality and the victim will live the maim and the scars for the rest of his life if he survives. Case closed!

its not lack of law, the laws are there, there is only a fraction who choose to follow. It’s LACK OF CONSCIENCE and SPIRITUALITY. The laws of the country and the laws of God give us the ability to be happy and content, yet we feel like disobeying at every turn. These kinds of things are the result.

She may even plead self-defence, and say she was threatened while she was carrying the Kerosene, the accidentally spilled it onto his shirt, at the same time, accidentally lighting the lighter. Trickie Dickie will get her off scott-free anyway, and he’ll probably end up paying her damages for taking the damn TV out of her room in the first place!

Be that as it may, unknown, she may have been bullied or abused, which we don’t know about, but she still faces an Attempted Murder charge, and if he doesn’t make it, that will be automatically upgraded to a Murder charge.
The reason is that what she did was premeditated. She did it AFTER the confrontation over the TV, having planned what she was going to do to him.
Even in Belize, I doubt if a jury would believe that she ‘accidentally’ (ooops) spilled Kerosene on him, and immediately ‘accidentally’ (ooops again, clumbsy me) lit the lighter! Lordy, even Dickie Bradley on a good day would stand a good to definate chance of losing this one!
Had she have fractured his skull with the TV during the struggle, she might have been able to plead self defence, or even ‘grabbed’ a knife in the kitchen during a ‘struggle’. (Could have claimed that he attacked her in the kitchen, and had to defend herself).
She planned it, wanted to make him suffer, or even kill him, so should be locked up!
