Cardona not gone and certainly not forgotten

Earlier today we caught up with Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at a CARIFORUM ministerial meeting. The subject of Marcel Cardona’s “constructive resignation” from the U.D.P. was raised with the Minister. The U.D.P. told Cardona on Monday following his outburst at the House last Friday that it will accept his resignation, but Cardona fired back on Thursday that he has not resigned. And according to the Minister, who is considered one of the moderate voices in government, in his view, all things considered democracy should prevail.

“It is not uncharacteristic for there to be problems in political parties. As a matter of fact, if you do the history of political parties you will find out that when George Price started in 1950, by 1956 all the people who started with him were no longer in the party because they had fallen out and they had gone their separate ways. So this is not unusual. I think that one always needs moderation in one’s dealings with these things. Abraham Lincoln used to like to say and he’s written about this that “never, never respond to anything in anger; give yourself time to think about it. Don’t react, respond but take time to think about it.” And I think that that is all that is needed in this present situation to resolve it. We need time and people who are prepared to dialogue. I don’t see it as the end of the world, I see it as a natural maturing process. It happens with all of us; whether at school, at home, in politics; it happens.”

“If it were left to me, I would say let him be. That’s my only view. I tend to be a very moderate person. I think that if a person wants to be associated with you, I think you should leave them. If they have their different views and opinions, that is what democracy is all about. If in fact, everybody thought the same way and behaved the same way, we’d have a terribly boring country and world.”
Cardona says that any form of internal dissent is not tolerated and will be dealt with an iron fist under the current leadership of the U.D.P.
This man is a true leader… i met with him last week at costa rica…. he really inspires me ……
Sedi appears to be he most level headed minister and calmest individual in the Government of the day. The others are apparently riding an emotional roller coaster coupled with their chest puffed up with pride and arrogance, not remembering that they are servants of the populace of Belize, red or blue. Government should serve all the people! not only udp supporters. What in the name of God is happening to our once so called tranquil heaven of democracy???
Sounds reasonable but if all of us could reason with those we disagree with, there would be no need for courts or laws. There is nothing to be gained by either side by trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, he said his piece, it was cleansing & he can leave or sleep on the veranda in his sleeping bag but he will not be welcomed or trusted on the other side of the door again. He’ll be given his mail until the aggrieved finds out where to send it but this was just an ugly break up & realistically, Briceno needs him like he needs a hole in the head. The Machiavelli in me says Briceno should embrace him behind closed doors & have him act as his spy or conkas eena UDP milk but we don’t need the entertainment, we need to turn this wayward ship/country around.
You know…I have read the comments you guys have place in this forum and some of you are right and some of you like Mr. Solis, who obviously sides with the current administration only sees the situation in one view instead of seeing the whole big picture…
I personally know Mr. Cardona, He is a genuine guy, in my view. He is educated and he isn’t afraid to speak the truth and stand up for what he believes in. Since his inception in politics and even before he was always involved in the issues affecting the Orange Walkenos and especially the people from the O/Walk East constituency. He projects the image of a good leader and he has delivered and accomplished some of his political promises he made. However, I have noticed that Mr. Cardona needs improvement in his timing in the execution of his political duties and the guy obviously needs to improve in his anger management.
I am not happy with Mr. Cardona because when he had the political backing from the U.D.P. and the ministerial power to accomplish most of what he promised to the people of O/Walk East, he failed. His own constituents were unhappy. One reason for this was the simple fact that you had to go through a whole interview with his wife or his secretary before you could meet with him and most of the time, they attended to you with an unfriendly attitude. All of this, in my view he realized a little bit late and should I mention the tantrum he made across the border? It made Belize and especially the people of O/Walk East shameful. The people gave him the opportunity and even if he was promised a higher office than the one he got at the beginning, he was still in good position to do what he was elected to do and that is to lead and improve the lives of the people of O/Walk East. He was still in a far better position than the one he is currently in.
I end my view with a question. Mr. Cardona, why did you wait so long to open your eyes and ears to the concerns and opinion of your own constituents?
Sedi said it very well. Everything body is entitled to his or her opinion. This is a democratic country and the House was made to say what every you want concerning the Belizean affairs. Mr Cardona’s freedom of speech is being violated by this own party.
A leader is not born but is made. Not neccessary by education even though it helps but by exprience learned in the school of life’s-hardship. There is a battery of test that identifies a true leader and one of it is: The capability of remaining calm, cool and collected in time of stress. Some of our so called leaders went through school but school never went through them. They got their schooling through scholarships and everything else paid by someone else except by them. Then they become arrogant, insensitive, selfish etc.etc.and instead of becoming servants they want to be served.

SEDI for PM!!!! I second it… This should have been Mr Barrow’s explanation and not acting ignorant and foolish or wait maybe he is. If we are a democratic country why would you ask a member of your own party to resign only for pointing out his opinion .Aren’t we not then free to do so????????

At least Sedi is showing more intellect than Barrow. Not that any od them should be PM. With Sedi we might be Guatemalans! With Barrow we are individuals without rights! I am still glad Cardona spoke up. He might have taken time but might have needed that time to get the courage but the fact is he spoke up which is commendable.
