Placencia resident killed during highway accident, several persons injured
There’s one more tragedy to report that occurred during the weekend of bloodshed, but the death of thirty-year old Ionie Westby was not the result of street violence. Ionie was killed in a horrific accident between miles nine and ten on the Western Highway. The Placencia resident was behind the wheel of a blue Ford Explorer and was accompanied by eighteen year old Ariel Westby and four minors, heading from Belize City in the direction of Hattieville after one o’clock on Sunday afternoon. 
But in the blink of an eye, their journey turned into a nightmare when they suffered a blowout and Iony lost control of the SUV. The vehicle overturned several times, digging into the pavement and knocking down trees in its path before ending up in a canal. Ionie was thrown from the vehicle and landed in the water, where she died instantly. According to police, her right hand and left foot were severed. News Five was provided with dramatic images immediately following the accident, which shows three of the other victims lying injured on the roadside as the medics prepared to transfer them to an ambulance. All five survivors suffered head and body injuries and are currently admitted at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
A blowout caused this much damage?. How fast was this car going. From the description of the carnage, no one was wearing their seat belts. RIP Iony & I wish the others a speedy recovery.
