G.O.B. will seek additional funding to assist in fight against crime

Another measure that the government is contemplating to fight crime, is to seek funding for equipment and training.

“I am committed to finding now additional money for the security forces; in particular the police department, for bullet proof vests, additional firearms and additional radios. I will get a costing from the minister very shortly. But cost it what it may, we have got to ensure that when we ask our police officers to stop and search these people, they don’t have to fear that: I am stopping and searching this person because I believe he may have a gun, but I am unarmed and so perhaps I better not stop and search him. So apart from the increase in bodies, in human resources that will now be placed on the streets of Belize City, we’re going to ensure that the police are very much better equipped. I’m also going to find some money for the special branch and the Gangs Suppression Unit to be able to draw on in an effort to increase our effectiveness at intelligence gathering. That money will serve as well another purpose. If we can do all I spoke about in terms of protecting the identity of witnesses, surely we will be able now to offer inducement, financial inducements, rewards for eyewitness testimony that can help us to put away the people who are committing these murders.”
Later in the press conference, the prime minister said that funding will come from frozen Central Bank accounts.

Truth:I totally agree with your statement.However there also got to be some form of incentive for these individuals that are willing to risk their lives to defend our constitution.
This man should find funding from his own pocket because most of his wealth has come from defending drug dealers and gang leaders……
Do it Barrow! Get the money and actually put it to use appropriately. Spend it wisely. Increase patrols. Keep the BDF on the streets at all hours. Equip the Police adequately. Root out the corruption in the ranks. Keep internal affairs checking the officers in charge all the way down to the traffic cops. Overhaul the system and maybe things will change. There may be hope for you yet Dean Barrow!
The only help u can get Mr. Prime Minister you can get is to pray to God and ask him for brimstone and fire to lick down the evil and corrupted people in Belize. I hate to say it but Belize city needs a tsunami to come and wash away all the wicked. Sone type a disaster from God to wash away all the corrupted and Evil. Maybe we need to give it back to the white people so they can clean it up. Because our people is ruining Belize. People has always known Belize people as respectful people and now we are getting known as killers. What a shame

Random patrols,will only bring random results,yes PM barrow,we need to level the playing fields,equip our officers so they can be real police officers,not jus disciplinarians with baton’s.Reward’s for information”snich pay”leading to the seizer of guns,and the arrest of those persons,is a great idea,even a free and anonymous easy to remember hotline number like “411”,would also be a very good idea,belizeans must also want change.The GOB should also look into quantity versus quality in the police force,we cant afford to put police on every corner,instead we need competent and vigilant officers to see real change.I think i is also a good idea,for the recruitment of BDF personel into or police force,at the end of their service to our military,with additional training about or laws,they would make for excellent police officers.
This is an opportunistic moment for dean barrow’s dictatorship to garner more funds to take lavish vacations, buy foreign real estate, sustain their sweethearts and concubines and rob the Belizean people of monies acquired in their name.
