Extradition case of Rhett Fuller to be heard at Privy Council

rhett fuller

Rhett Fuller will again mount a challenge to the request for his extradition made by the United States of America. The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council will be the venue for this latest challenge. In June 2009, the Belize Court of Appeal dismissed Fuller’s appeal and ordered that he be extradited; however, it subsequently gave permission for Fuller to appeal to the Privy Council. Fuller is being sought by the US Government in relation to an alleged murder that took place in March 1990, some twenty-one years ago in Florida. Even though American officials were well aware of Fuller being in Belize, they never requested his extradition until October 1998. Since that time Fuller has been fighting the request for his extradition. The long drawn out matter will be heard by the Privy Council in London on the eleventh and twelfth of April. Fuller will be represented by renowned extradition expert Edward Fitzgerald QC and Ben Silverstone of Doughty Street Chambers in London. Eamon Courtenay SC will also be appearing for Fuller. Solicitor-Advocate Angeline Welsh is Fuller’s solicitor. The Government of Belize has hired English Queen’s Counsel James Lewis.
