El Salvador Foreign Minister departs with joint agreement

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador, Hugo Roger Martinez Bonilla, concluded his official visit to Belize today. While in Belize he met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington and Prime Minister Dean Barrow. To end the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed in which both Belize and El Salvador undertook to help Salvadoran nationals, who make up one of the largest Hispanic communities in the country. Bonilla also met with residents of one such community before departing. Late this afternoon, Bonilla hosted a media briefing inside the V.I.P. Lounge of the Phillip Goldson International Airport.

“The main areas that we addressed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister are related to the strengthening of our bilateral relations and the exchange of commercial products between the two countries. In the area of cooperation, we have agreed to establish a mechanism which will allow for the provision of scholarships, not only for students in general but also for Salvadoran students living in Belize. We have envisioned more cooperation in the field of agriculture, in particular, the development of citrus products and the protection of our forests.
On the diplomatic and bilateral side, we have agreed to have a greater exchange of high level officials from the two countries, in order to enhance various sectors, not just politically, but in areas such as education and health.
One of the issues that stood out was regional security, how can we share information regarding criminals in Belize and El Salvador, so that there can be more effective prosecutions.
We have also agreed to work towards a SICA/CARICOM summit that will take place in El Salvador later this year, and this will bring together countries from Central America and the Caribbean in an effort to enhance relations between both regions.”
this is all a smoke screen from this gov. el salvador can do nothing for belizeans and as far as all the salvadorans here in belize half of them are squatters taking land that doesnt belong to them hundreds are gang members and el salvador cant even take care of their own people in their country much less the ones here in belize so this whole episode was for nothing means nothing i will admit their are a few good salvadorans who are here but the majority are illigal and are commiting crime.

In regards to Rod comment, it is very shamefull for a Belizean to say such things which only reflect ignorance and hatred, Salvadoreans in Belize have help a lot in the growth of the economy of Belize if not just take a hike to the western part of Belize and see the way they produce food and make good use of the land that have been laying lazy and which they bought from the government becuase it was not free. I can talk with property becuase My Dad bought a Land and now we have it as a private property so we are not taking away anything, we are contributing to the growth of our beloved country, furthermore I live in El Salvador now and I am studing to go back and continue contributing to my country, so dont say El Salvador cannot contribute in anything ah and one last thing there are gang member any where not only In El Salvador, if you dont believe go to south side Belize city and you will be out of there if possible without underware!!! so the the next time think before you speak, a Proud Belizean Salvadorean!

Rod why so foolish? Traitor? One world, one love, no true? All should voice their opinion. Perhaps that one person, who is working in a far off land to better the lives of his family, will have an insight to a situation that others have to realize. The assault on those in the US or from the US is foolish. Our economy is directly linked to the US economy and British economy. More so the US economy these days. There is a constant link. Whether you see it or not. It is there. Without the US things would be quite different. Belize might just be called Guatemala!
