Trial of men who murdered four persons underway
At news time tonight a jury is in deliberation over one of the most violent killing sprees the country has seen. It’s the murder trial against Leslie Pipersburgh and Patrick Robateau and it dates back to June eighteenth 2002, when security guards, Fidel Mai and Kevin Alvarez, were shot to death during a robbery at Bowen and Bowen Limited. As they made their escape, the culprits also opened fire on David Flores and Cherry Tucker, who were in a vehicle nearby. The case summed up today in a seven hour session in which Pipersburgh and Robateau were acquitted on two counts of Murder for the deaths of Flores and Tucker. While it is believed that they were killed because the gunmen wanted their vehicle, there was no evidence to pin either of the men to those shootings. That leaves them with the murder charges for Mai and Alvarez and the jurors went into deliberation room shortly after five o’clock this evening. That means that a verdict is not expected until at least nine o’clock tonight because the jury is required to spend a minimum of four hours in the chambers before delivering a verdict for murder. Both men gave statements from the dock; Pipersburgh placed himself at the scene and admitted that he was involved in the robbery, but said he left before the shooting occurred. Robateau, on the other hand, flatly denied all allegations and told the court that all twenty-one prosecution witnesses were telling lies.
The case has taken several turns since Pipersburgh and Robateau were detained in Mexico and were found guilty of the quadruple murder in 2004. That conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal, but the accused men took their plight all the way to London before the Privy Council where the decision was reversed. Judicial Committee found that trial Judge Troadio Gonzalez erred in law and did not properly advise the jury on the Police Department’s failure to hold an identification parade before levying charges. The Privy Council handed the case back to the Court of Appeal where the retrial was ordered. Robateau and Pipersburgh are represented by Oswald Twist and Michael Peyrefitte respectively.
lol dats why we should do away with this jury thing fi real. does the jury think that some one else killed David Flores and Cherry Tucker? my God!!! Our Belizean jurors have a way of looking at things which does not seem Belizean at all. I know my people nuh sso fool fi cant’t add 1 and 1 togeather and come up with a correct answer. Mr Barrow betta scrap this jury thing sooner or later. If he does that it will definitely be some thing which red and blue supporters will give him credit for.
I have come up with a new theory. I think that 7/10 when jurors acquit it is because the jurors are just anti establishment and they say not guilty because they are anti-police, anti establishment and pro street life. I think that 2/10 when there is an acquital it is becuase of fear or witness intimidation. i then think 1/10 times there is an acquital it is because the accused is actually not guilty. Wise up jurors please because the fate of justice is in your hands. Be honest and say guilty for a change. (no pun intended in the last sentence)

I would say sometimes we do make mistake when the devil is busy, well we all know when we have children we should always expect the unexpected, one of the accuse is a real good friend of mine but, its up to justice to decide an i hope they both get a fair judgement, the police were so careless that these men could have gotten off free for its the police weapon that killed the two in the car an its the security own bullet killed both of them in the exchange of fire so thats not a case an the law knows but its all about faith ok bredren’s, keep faith an peace in ur hearts an no matter what just live a righteous life after all of this is done. take care leslie.
