Funeral for 3 slain Chinese nationals held at St. John’s Cathedral

The senseless murders of three Chinese nationals caught the nation’s attention. A student, Hui Sheng Chen was shot in March and died as he underwent surgery in Merida. Two female grocers, Yan Ying Chen and Fei Lan Wu, also were killed inside their stores by gunmen who apparently wanted to send a message to the authorities in the ongoing urban warfare. Funeral services were held for the three nationals on Sunday. The St. John’s Cathedral was overflowing with a community that was grieving over the loss of their own. A delegation from the Delille Academy, where Hui Sheng Chen was enrolled was among the mourners at solemn service. The leaders of the Chinese community led the funeral procession.
