Pre-schoolers kick off their own festival of arts
March is observed as Child Stimulation Month, a time when the need for preschool education is emphasized and the students’ skills highlighted. Last year, as a means of showcasing the creativity of the three and four year olds, the Preschool Children’s Festival of Arts was added to the list of activities. This morning, the 2008 version was launched at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts.
Diane Haylock, President, National Institute of Culture and History

Margaret Williams, Education Officer
“Boys and girls, how many of you will be participating this week on this stage here?”
Audience
“Me, me.”
Margaret Williams
“Yes, Almost everybody here right. Are you excited?
Audience
“Yes.”
Margaret Williams
“Yes, I am too and I am sure your parents are.”
Diane Haylock
“I want to emphasize that it is really important for us to understand that as this festival is entitled, art is an important language of expression. Teachers we do our children a major disservice when we do not utilise the art and culture to express themselves.”
“One of the things that are important for me as President of National Institute of Culture and History is that we strive for certain things, we strive for innovation, we strive for creativity, we strive for excellence. It doesn’t matter how young we are, we can be excellent at what we do.”
The Preschool Festival of Arts will run until March fifteenth. The two hours of activities start each night at six at the Bliss. An arts and craft display is running simultaneously with the performances on stage.
