Mayor Moya down, but not out
Joe Coye is not the only one at a crossroads in politics. Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers intended to run for national office but her party put a spanner in the works since her suspension will be lifted after divisional conventions are concluded. Moya Flowers had all but gotten the blessing from Minister Michael Finnegan, her mentor in the Mesopotamia division, but he has been persuaded to run again. So what’s next for the Mayor? She may be out, but says she’s ready if any division is up for grabs.
Zenaida Moya Flowers, Belize City Mayor
“I had already said amongst those around me that I was not going to go up for mayor again; that was not my intention. I did inform—and this was public—that I wanted to run at the national or general elections. So that is my aspiration and however, as you very well know, that there is the suspension aspect that goes until next month, May 2011 that is still there and so in terms of the conventions at least in one particular convention that I was looking at, that convention has passed unfortunately. Again, I’ve had…”
Marleni Cuellar
“Any particular constituency that you have your eye on?”
Zenaida Moya Flowers
“Well, I must say that Mr. Finnegan and I have always been close and we’ve always discussed his area and you know he’s someone that is my main political advisor. He’s like my political godfather.”
Marleni Cuellar
“So if the suspension is lifted we shall see…”
Zenaida Moya Flowers
“I believe he has indicated or it has been indicated that he is scheduled to run in this upcoming election whenever it’s called and I will be right there to support him but if anything happens in terms of any of the other divisions or any other areas and I am still open to running, I think that is something that definitely I will look at.”
Moya Flowers says she had intended to pass on the mayoral baton to Councilor Philip Willoughby, but since he has withdrawn his name, the new candidate, Darrel Bradley will have her full support.
Shouldn’t we require that elected officials live in the area they represent? Let’s watch Finn, see if he backs out at the end of Moya’s suspension to make room for her. On the other hand Moya, I admire a girl with more testosterone than the fellows & that you are driven, As Machiavellian as their move may have been, I think they were trying to get that little stench of corruption off you before rolling you out again. You have time, clean up that BEL mess & some of the other stuff & show us some selfless management skills, we need more women in Politics..
You noh want Zenida…………….WE NOH WANT HER NEITHER…………….
Zenaida Don’t want to get off that Six thousand dollars a month that she is getting for doing nada.
I guess Zenaida Madoff is conspiring for another ponzi scheme against the Belizean tax-payers.Maybe she should have been convicted along with Crazy Arnold for misappropriation of funds belonging to the Belizean people.
Whenever you ready to run Zenaida, we will be right there to support you!
Look at the sands in the hourglass……..so are the glamorous days of your political life. Make sure you have enough public funds stashed away to maintain the life that you’ve been privileged courtesy of the people of Belize. B@#$%!!!
My personal opinion es that Mayor Moya has the political knowhow and material to let go from the UDP. She is the type of person along with other people “who have had the balls” to stand up and tell those in power about their highhanded actions. She should aspire to PM but not with the UDP much less with the PUP. A third political option is in demand, and persons who have their eyes wide open have that in mind. Best of luck to her.
you go girl, we women right behind you!
