Former cop’s new career as chain snatcher
Former police officer, Michael Diaz, appears to have taken up a new career as a chain snatcher. He was dismissed from the Police Department in December, 2010 following a Theft conviction for stealing a gold chain from Eberto Castellanos. As a first time offender, Diaz’ was spared prison time and his penalty was a fine of one thousand dollars, which he paid within two weeks. But when he was arraigned for another Theft today, both the Prosecutor and Magistrate Roberto Ordonez agreed that bail was out of the question. So tonight Diaz is behind bars awaiting his next court appearance on June seventh. The charge is relation to a report made by sixty-seven year old Wilword Banner, who told police that the incident occurred on January twentieth at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and Cemetery Road. Banner says he was putting groceries into his vehicle when Diaz rode by, snatched his six hundred dollar gold chain from his neck and escaped.
Why was this thief spared prison time, when first time offenders goes to jail for more than five years for stealing bottles.
