Legislation as well as equipment on the way to combat crime
At news time, Police continue to look for suspects in connection with the hurling of the fragment grenade. If there would have been an explosion, the bloody aftermath of murdered women and children would have brought irreparable damage to the government’s initiatives such as Restore Belize and Operation Jaguar. But regular raids carried out by the Gang Suppression Unit (G.S.U.) have been yanking many stolen items as well as illegal guns and ammunition from the streets. So this afternoon, at the opening of an education center for youths on Magazine Road, Prime Minister Dean Barrow was thankful that lives were spared. He promised to increase the firepower of the G.S.U. and introduce legislation that would be particularly tough on those hardened criminals who would throw a grenade on women and children.
Dean Barrow
“Thank god the grenade did not explode. Generally, I believe that the G.S.U. has been doing extremely well. I believe that unit has been able to bring some slight sense of reassurance to the public especially here in Belize City. We, in government, have committed to in fact provide to the unit all the wherewithal, all the material that it needs and we’re in the process of procuring additional weaponry, additional bullet proof vests and additional vehicles. I wanna make the point that this interview is taking place at the venue where we are opening what I call a second chance facility in terms of people who have not had an opportunity to complete school. And this allows me to say that the enforcement efforts of the police and of the security forces general; while extremely critical, have to be complimented by the attempts at social amelioration. So I do want to make clear that in that context we signed the loan for ten million dollars from the I.D.B. which will help with the training of young people, which will help with community involvement, which will help us to try even harder to beat back this phenomenon of urban violence.”
Jose Sanchez
“Okay, but even though it’s a good thing that’s happening, we can’t escape the fact that some criminals they seem to have no rehabilitation. That grenade from last night was being thrown amongst women and children. It says that there is a different kind of criminal out there who has no care.”
Dean Barrow
“Without a doubt. The point is while we must attack the social conditions that breed this kind of mentality that has given rise to this kind of mentality, to the extent that there are already those for whom there is no turning back. We have to go at that particular element hard and it’s not just with respect to the on the ground efforts of the G.S.U., it is as well to broaden and deepen the legal infrastructure so that the sort of penal catchment area can be widened. And you know that I’ve promised and in fact there is a House Meeting next Friday at which we will introduce a number of legislative measures that are designed to help to strengthen that aspect of this across the board fight against these people.”

Enough of the Press Conference Dean Barrow.Belizean Citizens are been killed while you’re runing your mouth. Please get to work.Let’s see some action. The mortality rate is already at 42 and we’re just five months into the year. This is prove that you havn’t done NADA,i mean NOTHING to curb crime.
It would also be helpful if Government itself could be seen as obeying the law. If the government (and individuals within the government) don’t obey our laws, and won’t commit the resources to enforce our laws, it doesn’t seem reasonable to expect anyone else to, including those laws regarding illegal weapons, drugs and human trafficking.
Is this guy Ray Charles!?!?!?
BZinCALI, he kept the glasses on.
Alcohol and weed lead to much of the crime and violence here just as it does anywhere else. But the big problem, the one that gets covered up time and again is the COCAINE! This the poison that is tearing apart the Belize society. Belize, like the US, is a consumer! True here is a transport hub to the US. But, lot a consumption here in Belize. These guys smoke that stuff and get crazy. Drunks get violent and the weed make you think a different way and maybe do something you wouldn’t normally do. But the COCAINE make you truly crazy. That the disease here. Keep the rum, keep the weed for all I care, but the cocaine got to stop. Too much money to be made and these days it is usually the Police, BDF, or some other GOV authority trafficking this stuff. The money too good. We got fishermen anchored offshore searching for “white lobster”. The stuff just floating out there. No one care what happen. Just get that li bit a money fast. Now we got the same ills that the US ghettos have. Sex crime gone up, violence against women and kids gone up, Murder for no reason at all gone up. Mr. Barrow, put the BDF on the corners. Make Operation Jaguar permanent! Patrol 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Tell dean and boots to stop covering these jackals, they know who these people are because they wanted to get some of them out of belize city.
PM Barrow, don’t pay mine to people like Rod who is mentally ill and on treatment OK, Now what want to say to you sir is to please start to hang these boys, stop feel sorry for them cause they are sorry for us the law abiding citizens, please investigate under who’s portfolio the grenade was stolen in 2004 and please bring these past ministers to justice, its because of them we are going through all this violence.
I AM URGING YOU PRIME MINISTER START TO HANG PLEASE HANG THESE BOYS REGARDLESS OF THEIR AGE. NOT EVEN THEIR MOTHERS FEELS SORRY FOR THEM, OR THEY WOULD HAVE TRAINED THEIR CHILDREN TO RESPECT OTHERS.
But wait a minute, you and Boots just met with the whole crowd and tell them you were proud of them and they were surpassingly productive.. what do you say to the nurses, cane farmers, teachers who actually go to work every day.?????.
