Family charged for 6 sacks of stolen beans

Christian Alexander Landaverde

Also in court, a Belize City woman, her common-law-husband and son were all charged for Theft and Handling Stolen Goods. They were accused of stealing seven sacks of beans from a truck belonging to wholesale vendor, Manuel Angel. Nineteen year old Christian Alexander Landaverde took the rap and pleaded guilty, which meant that the charges were withdrawn from against his mother, Gloria Mejia Portillo and stepfather Marcos Barrientos Garay. Landaverde was fined one thousand, five hundred dollars to be paid forthwith, but he was remanded to prison for fifteen months since he could not pay. The sacks of beans, each weighing a hundred pounds, were stolen between May fifth and seventh from Angel’s truck which was parked on Red Bell Lane. Police later searched a house on Pitter Street, which is owned by Garay. There they found six sacks of beans and the family was arrested. In mitigation, Landaverde could not offer an explanation for his actions but said he got access to the container because he knows one of Angel’s employees.

Easy money, easy come, easy go.

Some prefer to embarrassed, humiliate, and ruined their lives and reputation instead of living an honest life. It’s their choice.

    Life in jail.

  3. Al says:

Is there one honest person in Belize that can be trusted. You hire someone to work for you they wind up helping people steal from you or they help themselves to your stuff. Where will it end.

  4. BelizeanBway says:

Rod, that is the most ridiculous excuse I have ever heard. You see how healthy that younman looks? He should be ashamed to be stealing when he has good hands and feet to work. Has nothing to do with the government.

Maybe there are no jobs in the city but can’t he go up north to cut sugar cane? or south to reap oranges, clean farm lands and plant his own beans? Perhaps he can meditiate about that while he enjoys his vacation at Hattieville Ramada.

He is where he should be but the parents need to be held accountable along with the thieving employee with whom this thief was supposed to share the profit. Does anyone really believe this boy brought 6 sacks of anything into his parents home which went unnoticed?

  6. CEO says:

They should all be charged equally! His parents should sent the example…well actually they did but it’s the wrong example.

Rod you as as ignorant as they come! I am not any kind of “P” but how the hell you will place the problems of the country squarely on the current governments shoulder?

If the last buch were that good I bet they would have still been in power and not lost the election by a landslide. Think before you talk!

  7. Swamp Dragon says:

Rod i agree with you! Things getting worse and worse. maybe the times but definitely happening under Barrow’s watch.
