House Meeting to discuss crime measures; but where will Cardona sit?
The House meets this Friday in Belmopan. The government will be pushing forward five new bills to address the murderous crime rate which continues to climb with alarming speed. The bills include controversial issues such as the re-introduction of preventative detention, which is bundled in one package that is called the Eight Constitutional Amendment Bill. The four other bills include the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Bill which will increase penalties for those involved in gangs, the Indictable Procedure Bill and Juries Amendment Bill which is the trial without jury in certain criminal cases, and the Supreme Court of Judicature Amendment Bill which deals with appeals of decisions of magistrates.
These are all serious bills that will require constitutional amendment and robust debate, but the House can’t meet without a side show. There is word that the government is looking to remove Orange Walk East representative Marcel Cardona from their isle and cast him on the far end of the opposition side since his “constructive resignation” from the U.D.P. We are not too sure if Cardona will be present at the House on Friday, but when we inquired if he is welcome on the opposition side, we were told that Cardona remains an elected U.D.P. representative and very well ought not to sit on P.U.P. side. We’ll see how it plays out on Friday. Cardona has maintained that he has not resigned from the U.D.P. After his last presentation in the House on March twenty-fifth when he went ballistic on Prime Minister Dean Barrow and his deputy, Cardona was written off by the U.D.P. Since then Cardona was trounced in the Orange Walk East at convention and never one to be quiet, he claimed the cards were stashed against him by his own party.
dont worry cardona its better if you are not associated with the worse gov. in belizean history you do not want to be a statistic you want to be a winner then move over the isle and come to a winning gov. throw off the cloke of failure and breath again.
Where will Cardona sit?
I bet you all the handguns in Bungulung that they will try to embarrass him by seating him at such a location that he will feel like a fifth wheel and stick out like a sore thumb.
Get a binding assurance ahead of time of where you will sit, Cardona. If you don’t like their arrangement, don’t show.
I am still proud of Cardona for standing up to that poor excuse of a PM we have. It is unfortunate that besides being everything negative that cannot be published, he is also a vindictive person and I hope that the Belizean people show unity and help Cardona. It took a lot of guts to do what he did. Pity he cannot give some of that to the PM.
We need more people like Cardona in Belize.Stay strong and keep fighting for what you believe in.
am proud of Cardona he did d rite thing but you no why al the rest wont do like Cardona because they r thief and dont care,we will unite with Cardona and bring down these thief dont no how they expext to have law abiding people wen all we see of dis gov,is corruption thiefing and victimization, look at Montero he owns d ministry and BMDC and PM no every thing but like how he da d biga thief he no care people lets do soemthing ans soon
CARDONA needs to go and JOIN THE VIP Party.
BELIZEANS ARE LONGING FOR A THIRD PARTY………and BELMOPAN PROVES THAT A THIRD PARTY IS VIABLE.
The VIP Party could USE CARDONA’S EXPERIENCE IN THE POLITICAL ARENA.
Ignorant Belizeans always read the headlines and don’t understand the bigger picture. 30 years ago the house of representatives was formed for a two party system, the ignorance of those who created the acquired parliamentary system had no clue of the future of Belize, therefore could not have structured the house for Independents or Third Party candidates. Although to my ignorant Belizean masses this is a minor issue, History would be in the making if indeed Cardona were to cross the aisle, which I hope he does, for Historical purposes and precendent.
