Karl Heusner was in court today; no, it’s not the hospital, it’s a twenty-five year Belize City resident. Heusner faces seven charges, but he claims that he was badly beaten by a cop without reason and that he was arrested for a bullet he knew nothing about. Heusner showed Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie his bruised eyes, swellings on his abdomen and chest, abrasions on his back and a scar on his mouth; all injuries that he says were caused by the arresting officer, PC James Jones. Attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley represented Heusner in court, as he was read charges of Kept Ammunition without a Gun License, Assaulting a Police Officer, Damage to Property, Threatening Words, two counts of Using Obscene Words upon an Officer and Resisting Lawful Arrest. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and has been remanded to prison until June fourteenth. PC Jones claims that on May tenth, Heusner was seen hanging out South Street and since he has had several run-ins with the law, he was searched. A point twenty-two round caliber round of ammunition was allegedly found in his pocket. Heusner, however, says that Jones approached him, told him that he would spend forty-eighty hours in lockdown and then started punching him. Bradley also noted that his client was beaten in broad daylight and the assault was witnessed by several persons.
