15 year old’s throat slashed in Cayo

Two men, one woman and a minor were all murdered over the past weekend. In the west, a minor’s life was cut short on Sunday night and it is suspected that the culprits were his friends; two minors are detained. Fifteen year old Albert Valdez was stabbed a stone’s throw away from his home in San Ignacio. With help from a neighbor he made it to the hospital but did not survive the injuries to his throat, chest and left hand. News Five’s Andrea Polanco spoke to members of the grieving family, who says the minor might have been killed over a bike.

Fifteen year old Albert Alexander Valdez seems like a normal and happy teenager in this picture, and for his family, that was truly how he was, not the usual troublemaker, so when he was murdered they were in disbelief:

But shortly after seven on Sunday night, trouble came looking for Valdez at his home, when two friends went to look for him to pay him for a bike:

“One ah deh tell Albert, Albert sell wah bike to one ah deh, that dah weh I get to understand and tell Alex that he gonna give him the money mek he go with him downtown to the ATM. Eventually, Alex pick up ih bike thinking that dis lee bwai wah get dis seventy dollars.”

“So dis dah neva wah old beef like people are saying?”

“No, this is not an old beef. These guys were together Sunday at Victor Galvez Stadium playing football, watching football going on up there. Alex came home around six six-thirty and they came to pick up Alex, gone look fuh Alex home.”
But Valdez didn’t return home that night, because sometime between the hours of eight-thirty and nine-thirty he was stabbed some two minutes away from his home in this alley located off Eduardo Luna and Blue Bird Streets. After Valdez was stabbed, he was able to make it to a neighbor’s yard, leaving a trail of blood as he made his way across for help:

“I was standing by the front door and when this guy came running from that side. And he was calling for help.”

“No he couldn’t speak, he was just making signs.”

“With his hands, like this and he was like this making signs towards the house.”

“Well I couldn’t see him from there at that time but when I ran out I though he was one of my cousins when I held him from his shoulders he wanted to speak but there was lotta blood.”

“From his throat, he couldn’t speak. He tried to speak and he still couldn’t speak and then emm I ask if a dog bite hime, he say no. He do signs that say no. What he do is hold his shirt like dis and then he did like this and when I saw the big cut and I say this is no dog bite, this is cut nuh. I hail for help; I hail my family for help. Unu bring wah sheet or something this guy is cut.”

“We ker him to the hospital. I was holding the cloth, he just do me like he going and I told him ‘you have to fight for your life, God is helping you’ I tell him. So we carried him to th hospital and he reach alive there.”
According to relatives, the suspects who are minors are well-known to the family:

“I call them kids because they were more like kids too, they use to deh een and out from my house. I just can’t believe what did my son did wrong to them that they had to do that to him.”

Shortly after he was taken to the hospital, Valdez succumbed to his injuries and police have since detain the two minors in connection with the teenager’s murder. Reporting for News Five, I’m Andrea Polanco.
Police recovered a black twenty inch beach cruiser bicycle with a small knife on the rear wheel.
Again…. What is it in our culture that has led our children to believe that murder is an acceptable response to everything. If adolescents can be this heartless, they must be prosecuted as adults.

I BEG THE QUESTION IN THESE DAYS WE ARE LIVING HOW CAN A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD BE ALLOWED OUT OF HIS HOUSE AT THAT TIME OF THE NIGHT. PARENTS NEED TO BE MORE VIGILANT OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Keeping the cboy locked down at night would not have helped if they wanted to kill him over a bike they could have done it at 8:00 the next morning. It is sad that our teeneagers are resorting to these kinds of crimes, like you all said try them as adults and let them feel how it is to be dealt with like a man, they grow up too fast and try to be men before their time. Young boys with criminal minds. You do the crime you spend the time, they fully understood what they wanted to do before they did it. Sad very sad. Life in prison would be a good lesson to them.
these kids need to be punish, treat them like adult, so they could learn to live and love each other. Have fun growing up not spending their life in jail. DONE with it, the government need to put a stop to this. May be push harder and make it a must in education for any children who don’t want to go to school
Wow! It saddens me to see what used to be paradise, become such a hell-hole! Why is it that Belizean kids always want to mimic the scum of American society? They always want to be like the gangbangers and hip hop trash artists. Too bad hardly any of them want to be scholars, doctors, lawyers…you know, something meaningful and productive. Even if they were laborers, but self respecting, decent, honest people with a kind heart toward their brothers and sisters. Now, most people say to try them as adults; but what good would that do? Someone will get some government official to set them free and the rest of criminals will rest at ease knowing they can get a “get out of jail” pass.
