Convicted criminal and escapee captured
Another prisoner, Fabian Bain, was not involved in the accident, but he had four days of freedom and is back in jail tonight. Bain, who is also known as Carlos Escalante, escaped last Tuesday while being transferred from the courthouse to the Central Prison. But on Saturday night, police searched a two storey house at the corner of Consuelo and Peter Seco Streets and he was found hiding in a back room. According to police, Bain did not resist being re-arrested. He was arraigned this afternoon in Magistrates Court for Escape from Lawful Custody and pleaded guilty. Since he has no previous similar offences, Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie sentenced him to a year and a half behind bars. Bain awaiting a retrial for the 2006 murder of BWS Security Guard, Fortunato Chun.
Is this sentence supposed to be added to his time after he is convicted or is he serving that time now while he is on remand for the pending murder trial? And why were the people living in the home where he was found not charged with harboring a fugitive?
