Manslaughter case into death of Gilbert “Ray” Lightburn concludes

Electrician, Nigel Tillett was behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux pick-up that knocked down and killed the well known, Gilbert “Ray” Lightburn on October seventh, 2009. Today, Tillett was acquitted of Causing Death by Careless Conduct as well as the lesser charge of Manslaughter. Justice Adolph Lucas upheld a no case submission made by Attorney Arthur Saldivar on the grounds that Prosecutor Shamilla Williams did not provide sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case. Saldivar also submitted that there is no evidence as to the speed Tillett was driving to prove that he was careless. Justice Lucas then directed the jury to find Tillett not guilty, noting that the prosecutor only proved two of the four elements of the charge. Williams had called five persons to testify but there were no eyewitnesses since Isaac Williams, Tillett’s passenger, claims he was sleeping and the impact of the crash woke him up.
