Cassandra Humes charged with Handling Stolen Goods
In court, six persons were remanded to prison on Monday after being charged with Burglary and Handling Stolen Goods in connection with a string of break-ins in the Lake Independence and Belama areas. Today, a seventh accused, twenty-one year old Cassandra Humes of Berries Street, was charged with Handling Stolen Goods. Humes is accused of dishonestly assisting in the disposal of in jewelry, which was stolen from Kim Burgess. She pleaded not guilty and, since there were no objections, she was offered bail one thousand, five hundred dollars. Meanwhile, Leroy Gomez, his girlfriend, Julia Welch, Ernest Staine, Benua Andrews, Taletha Cruickshank and Kerrisha McCauley, who is currently pregnant, remain behind bars. The series of burglaries occurred between May twenty-eighth and June seventh at the homes of Andrew Young, Kim Burgess as well as Marisol and Dominga Martinez. Humes is due back in court on August third while the other six persons are to reappear in July when bail will be considered.
