P.M. meets with Mexico’s President about electricity
The bills for the expropriation of B.E.L. were rushed in the House and Senate and by the end of Monday, the Governor General had signed off on them. On Tuesday morning, the Fortis privately owned company, changed hands and went under government control and a new Board and C.E.O. were installed. While the transition went through with relative ease, there are still many hurdles to cross and the legal battles over compensation loom largely in the horizon. But so far we can confirm tonight that Prime Minister Dean Barrow has met with President Felipe Calderon of Mexico. The details of the outcome of that meeting have not been confirmed but before departing for Guatemala, the Prime Minister told News Five that “the reason for requesting that bilateral meeting is to talk about CFE and what Mexico and the president can do now to assist us given the public takeover of B.E.L.” including a request to double the credit line of ten million dollars with the Comision Federal de Electricidad and B.E.L. This is to give the government wiggle room as CFE was threatening to cut off supply of electricity since B.E.L. was dangerously close to its credit limit. So as we said, the bilateral meeting with the Mexican president has taken place in the margins of the security conference, the Prime Minister and Minister Doug Singh are attending in Guatemala City. The P.M. is expected to release the details of that meeting on his return on Thursday.
So who gets a golden parachute? When I hear future compensation, I know we are not talking about the meter readers & the people who actually need their jobs. Good luck with the negotiations.
eeeediot bwai… double to limit!!!!! eeeeeeediot bwai.
Is this the Same pm who said I am not Oliver twist I am Oliver barrow and I no beg no one for nothing well here we go again another lie because here he is groveling at the feet of the Mexican president for them to not cut Belize off for not paying their bills get ready belizeans I promise you that you will be paying more for electricity soon our government on their knees in front of the Mexican gov. Wow wow wow judas barrow on his knees , go Oliver twist.
No national football team, PM begging the Mexican president for free elctricity, newborns dying due to lack of basic healthcare, legal parking on roundabouts, no one respects traffic lights, chief of police and DPP hookup, only in Belize, soon to be the next Haiti
If you notice, the PM immediately went to beg for more credit, instead of working out a payment plan for the bill owed. Which means they plan to owe CFE more than Fortis owed them. Is he any different than Fortis? GOB could have gone into talks with CFE on behalf of the Belizean people without taking over the company, that’s of course if Dean really have the Belizean people at heart. The debt would have still been a burden on the public purse anyways because GOB was the guarantor of the loans for BEL. They only made matters worst because along with the debt which they technically had, GOB now have to find compensation monies. It does not matter if its 1 million dollars or just 1 dollar, the nation could have done without the additional expense.
